The #recipe for the copycat #BoilingCrab is here! These aren't my personal recipes but I did tweek a couple things to adjust to my liking, which will be reflected in my post. Let me know if you try the recipe out and how you liked it!
Homemade #Cajun Seasoning
2 tbsp garlic powder, 2 tbsp Italian seasoning, 2 tbsp paprika (smoked is even better!), 1 tsp salt, 1 tbsp black pepper, 1 tbsp cayenne pepper, 1 tbsp dried thyme, 1 tbsp onion powder. I personally don't like salt, and find that Boiling Crab is very salty. The original recipe calls for 2 tbsp of salt so adjust to your liking!
The Whole Sha-Bang Recipe
2.5 lbs of shrimp, 1 lb of mussels, 3 tbsp of Cajun seasoning, 3 tbsp paprika (again, smoked adds great flavor), 2 tbsp oregano, 2 tbsp cayenne pepper, 2 tbsp chili powder, 2 tbsp salt-free lemon pepper, 3 tbsp Louisiana hot sauce, 2-3 tbsp brown sugar (adjust to your liking), 4-5 heads of minced garlic (freshly minced is best), 4 sticks of unsalted butter, 4 tbsp Chesapeake Bay Seasoning (or Old Bay Seasoning), 1/2 cup garlic powder (I used about 3.5 tbsp), fresh juice of 3 lemons and 1 lime (keep them after you squeeze the juice out to clean your hands!), 2 packages of Trader Joe's chicken apple sausage, and 3 ears of fresh corn cut into 3 pieces.
Use a pot that is large enough to hold all your ingredients. Over medium to low heat, melt butter in a large pot then add minced garlic. Let cook for a minute then add in all dry ingredients and let simmer for 10 minutes.
While you start the steps above, use a medium sized pot to boil your baby red potatoes for 15-16 mins or until you can pierce them with a fork easily. Removed potatoes and set aside, and boil/steam your corn for 5-6 mins, based on desired softness. Once done, remove from heat and set aside. Personally, I steamed the mussels in this same pot with about 3/4 cup of water. Remove from heat and set aside as well.
Going back to the sauce in the large pot, slice sausages and add them in. Add shrimp into pot and stir occasionally until cooked. Once shrimp is cooked, add mussels, potatoes, and corn and mix to evenly coat all ingredients. Serve and enjoy!
