On every hike, there's something for me to take away. Either something new. Or something that I knew already but it is reinforced. I love each of these little learnings which I get in the Swiss wonderland. The hike last week had more colour as the autumn leaves spent the last few days hanging on the trees, before falling to the ground. This week, the sights were more winter like. Some frost, more grey, colder. What were the highlights of my 11 km hike today?
1. As they say, and as I agreed with yet again, there's nothing such as bad weather. There's only bad clothes. It was - 1, but I was pretty comfortable in my 'onion' like layers. 🍟
2. Man is a social animal. But if you're a mum of small babies, it is IMPERITIVE that you somehow take out time to go out and meet your friends. When you feel like you're reduced to only being a mum and a wife, when you feel like you're a maid to little monsters 24/7 and a chauffeur as well as a cook, you need people to tell you 'you're doing great'. I always preach that, but today my Swiss friend said exactly the same thing and I couldn't agree more. Mums are the same and go through the same, wherever they live in the world. 'Your lipstick is nice', 'your dress suits you', 'I enjoyed our conversation today', 'I love your sense of humour' ....little sentences like these can do a lot to boost your self confidence. Everyone needs to be bucked up. So go out and fetch your compliments.🌹
3. You're as capable of doing things as you want to be. Yes, physical fatigue is a real thing. But half the battle is won when you let your mind push you to make the physical effort to step out, be with nature, get exercise, and work those muscles. Of course, a healthy balance is essential and I am a big believer of listening to your body when it says I am tired. But it's easy to resort to the couch and Netflix when the kids leave for school. Or burying yourself under laundry and housework. Getting out needs more courage and perhaps a step out of your comfort zone. But when you break the cleaning, cooking, laundry chain, you stop pitying yourself. You drive your mind. Don't let your mind drive you. ❤️
