"Renegades" by Marissa Meyer, spoiler free review: (also now live on my blog, link in bio). Spoiler free!
4 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Yes! All of the yes! Why did I procrastinate reading this for so long?!
Okay yes I know that can be said about a vast percentage of my tbr but still, I just want to read all the books…and I get distracted by other books!
But, honestly, this exceeded my expectations so much! Like, The Lunar Chronicles is one of my favourite series, yet I didn’t wholly love Heartless, so I didn’t know what to expect from this at all, yet I’d definitley been excited and curious about this!
I loved it! From the word go, my heart just felt so much for Nova, the sheer horror she had to face, the lack of hope she felt, the devastation she felt at what was happening and her helplessness, her being sure that help was coming, I felt it all. She’s such a well drawn out character, I just couldn’t help but admire her resolve, and whilst I found myself initially disagreeing with the Anarchists ideals, all throughout, and ESPECIALLY at the end, I feel like my mind was questioning ‘who are the bad guys really? Who has the right to call the shots?’ I couldn’t help but agree with Nova’s daring ideas, I thought she was super risky and daring and admirable, there were so many times when I thought the Renegades would find out her true identity, I was honestly hooked throughout.
At the opposite of Nova’s Anarchist, we have Adrian, a Renegade and a fabulous one at that. I loved his page time with Nova, both of their character development were utterly fabulous, and there were times I was properly flailing in anticipation and excitement and nerves for the reveal! Especially now having finished the book, I’m all the anticipation for book 2!
I loved all the various powers our characters have, from Nova’s ability to not sleep, but to put those in a deep rest with a mere touch, to Ingrid’s (Oh Ingrid, I’m so mixed towards you! Why?! Okay but I know why but…Why?!) rather explosive skills, and to Adrian’s amazing artistic ability, this book was just such a fun read and I can’t wait for book 2, which I feel will be even better! starting it later tonight 😍
