Happy Saturday, guys! I’m conflicted about starting this beautiful book right here. I’m a few chapters in and my plan was to continue it next, but with Priory coming out on Tuesday (!!!) I’m not sure I’ll finish it in time. What to do!? .

Because Priory of the Orange Tree is coming out so soon I think I’ll plan on finishing up The Song Rising by Tuesday and then clear the table for Priory 🐉 .

What’s your most anticipated read this year? (Can you tell mine is Priory? 🙈) .

Do you have any fun plans for today?

I’m finally going to start Devil’s Daughter by Lisa Kleypas. I had so many books to read and review last week that I didn’t even realize it had released! Now that I’m kinda caught up with my ARC schedule, I can get started.
Have any of y’all read Devil’s Daughter? I’m not a big historical romance reader but I do love Lisa Kleypas.

I realized two things while taking this photo....
1. I don't have any yellow spined books.
2. I don't have an orange candle. Gotta remedy that @newtonsarchive
How many of these books have you read?? What would you rate them?? I haven't read any of these yet. So many books, so little time I tell you!! Tag: #bookishrainbow

🔸Author:@authorsrimannarayanan 🔸Publisher: @srishtipub 🔸Genre: Fiction

This book was more than "love, breakup & marriage" .At first i was a bit confused about what was actually going on but soon realized that two time periods are shown in alternative chapters. One in the year 2003 where Shyam is already married with Padma and not at all happy with his married life & another one from the year 1997 where he has freshly joined for work and everything related to it. And also about his bond with his friends Annie and Aditi.

It was informative in every aspect. All the happenings in the office are very well described and this gives us an insight on the job profile. As it is from the year 1997 and IT industry in India is just starting to flourish we get to see  more of email conversations between the characters.

With the title "Socha bhi Na Tha " the Author in my view tries to bring in the fact that many of the things that happen in our life is "Unfathomable". A lot of events in our life, a lot of decisions we take or the situations we are in just happens in a way we never thought it would be. At times we listen to our mind when we should have listened to our heart and vice-versa and that complicates things further. And we should not blame destiny for everything that happens in our life.It is actually in our free-will , how we work had , how we put all our effort in achieving something .

Finally the author talks about the monster " Depression". 99% of people in my opinion still doesn't know what depression actually is. I feel depression can be completely understood by a person who have actually battled it or seen their loved one doing so or in the worst case , seen someone die battling it. And severe depression cannot be cured just by counseling it needs a proper medication or else it can be fatal.
So this book had a lot of things in one. Language is understandable. I was just irked my the character Shyam because of his obsession for "good looks with good heart" #bookrecommendation .

Do you love nonfiction? ☁️
As for me, I don’t read such books often, and when I do I choose them very carefully 🙌 Since I left — at last! 😅— years of education behind me I think books are for fun and joy. So I prefer fiction ☺️
However, I’m currently in the middle of “Save the Cat” by Blake Snyder and I already love it so much! 🧡 It’s a book written by a very successful screenwriter for his fellow screenwriters. But I suppose it could be very helpful to all of us who is trying to write anything. There’s so much tips and tricks, and its language is not too difficult. I’ll write about the book more when I’m done with it 🤗

📚: One Day in December by Josie Silver
☕️: La Milkeria, Florence, Italy

Sometimes, you just need a lighthearted romance to get you through the week. In this book, Laurie and Jack fall in love at first sight after Laurie spots him outside the bus window; they don’t see each other again until a year later, when Laurie’s best friend has started dating Jack and introduces them to each other at a party. While chick lit isn’t my go-to genre, there was something extremely comforting in the predictability of the story. This book had it all: love at first sight, strong female friendships, big romantic gestures, missed connections, and second chances. I had a wonderful sense of certainty and faith when I opened this book that life would be okay for the characters, no matter what mistakes they made. And there were plenty of opportunities for mistakes here, as the story itself spanned a period of ten years, allowing for a number of realistically tragic events to keep things from getting too sugary sweet. It was nice to sit back and enjoy the story and the characters without looking for any deeper meaning or worrying about how things were going to turn out for them in the end.

Happy Saturday lovelies! I've finally decided that my next read will be The Secret History by Donna Tartt. I've had that and The Goldfinch on my shelves for YEARS. I've only heard great things about TSH, so now is the time to read it.

'There once was a man who, one night between the main course and the sweet at a dinner party, went upstairs and locked himself in one of the bedrooms of the house of the people who were giving the dinner party . . .' I’m currently reading THERE BUT FOR THE which is my first Ali Smith. She’s one heck of a wordsmith, isn’t she? That being said, I can’t help but think that I’m missing out on things (aka not getting their meaning).😅 Have you read this one? And if you’re familiar with Smith’s work, any favourites? It's a lovely sunny day so I felt like leafing through A VICTORIAN FLOWER ALBUM by Henry Terry before going outside for a bit.🌞 Happy weekend folks! .

"Music comes out of silence and at the end it goes back to it. It's a journey. You see? ...And of course the silence at the beginning of a piece of music is always different from the silence at the end...Because if you listen, the world changes. It's like falling in love. Only no one gets hurt". As a music lover myself I really enjoyed how this book was primarily set in a music shop in 1988 and how passionate Frank the owner was about music, and in particular vinyl. His ability to embark so much knowledge of what to listen for in a particular song and the stories behind them was brilliant! For me there are many songs that transport me to a certain time and place when I first heard them and it's so powerful.

This story also shows the beauty of friendship and love. Songs are so cleverly used throughout to display specific emotions and lead to transformation for the characters in how they feel and see the world after hearing a particular song. I thought it was a really nice touch too, to split the book into sections called sides (like on a record) and then what would usually be called an epilogue was called a hidden track.

There are also two quotes right at the beginning which I liked looking back on after finishing the book as this is when they really make sense: "Time has told me
You're a rare, rare find
A troubled cure
For a troubled mind" (Nick Drake, 'Time Has Told Me'). "It is a joy to be hidden but disaster not to be found" (Donald Winnicott)

Which books have you read that link in to your passions/hobbies?

Hey bookworms! If you guessed Twelve Years a Slave as the answer to yesterday's post, you guessed right 😊. It's an intense read but not half as bad as I thought it'd be. I'm glad I finally, finally worked up the courage to read it.
.
.
.
*RANT ALERT*
.
.
"You know, we live in an ass-licking economy. The biggest problem in this country is not corruption. The problem is that there are many qualified people who are not where they are supposed to be because they won't lick anybody's ass, or they don't know which ass to lick or they don't even know how to lick ass." - Americanah, Chimamanda Adichie

In other news, it's voting day today in my country, Nigeria.Today we choose who we want as our next president. There are a few good candidates contesting, the people are filled with lots of optimism and hope but my fear is that the usual happens. The quote ☝️ is a perfect description of what the usual is. The ass-licking and corruptuon go hand in hand, we hope, we pray for change, promises are made, someone is elected, we are happy, we wait and wait for him to do something, for change to happen everywhere, anywhere but month after month it's the same song we're singing, the same problems. Months turn to years and before you know it, it's time to vote again. It's a vicious cycle that desperately needs to end.

I just watched a video of someone at a polling booth reporting that the booth not only opened late but of the 3 card readers available, 2 are not working 😯 🤯 After the last minute decision to postpone the election from last saturday to today (by the way, who cancels a national election a few hours before 😩), you have a whole week to prepare for the elections and you still bring faulty machines to the centres? God knows what else is not working or has not been properly planned for. I love my country and my heart bleeds at all the corruption and injustice that's going on. The frustrating part is that even when the good ones are put in there the bad ones, "god fathers" and invisible hands that control things will not let them change things. There's so much potential in that country, so much that can happen. When will we change? 😔😔

✨Book Review!✨
~
Circe
~
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 stars
~
This book was SO good! When I first picked it up, I wasn’t sure I was going to enjoy it, since it’s not something I would usually read. I am so glad I did though, because I really enjoyed it! It won book of the year, and lived up to its expectations. I loved reading about Greek Gods from Circe’s point of view. What I loved about this, was getting to know more about Greek Gods from the point of view, of one that was not so popular. It was so interesting to see things from her point of view. I also don’t know too much about Greek Gods, but it was so great to learn more about them. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes reading about Greek Mythology! This book is very hit or miss for everyone, but if you’re into Greek Mythology, I think you will enjoy it. ~
~
Synopsis: “In the house of Helios, god of the sun and mightiest of the Titans, a daughter is born. But Circe is a strange child--not powerful, like her father, nor viciously alluring like her mother. Turning to the world of mortals for companionship, she discovers that she does possess power--the power of witchcraft, which can transform rivals into monsters and menace the gods themselves.”
