Name of the book: Timepass-Story of Internet Addiction

Name of the author: Amit Joshi

Title and Book Cover: Catchy title with the perfect cover. (5/5)

Plot: The plot starts off with the life of an IT employee Shikhar who starts at 8 in the morning and comes home by 9 or 10 at night. He spends the rest of his time on social media and the internet. He spends his day with his close friend Sandy, his colleague Vinay, his boss Shantanu and the girl he is in love with, Madhavi. Everything goes smooth until his father pressurizes him to get married. When he decides to propose Madhavi, the latter introduces her lover Gagan aka Vikramaditya who was actually his best friend during the school days. He has become a famous writer by now. At the same time, Shikhar realizes that he has got Internet addiction and decides to get treated for the same. He goes to the centre and gets various experiences there. What happens to him later, whether he found his real love or not, forms the climax of the story. (4/5)

Writing style: Writing style was good. Dr.Net’s explanation about life on and off the facebook was beautiful. I loved the part where, Shikhar overcoming the addiction was explained. The initial convos between Shikhar and Madhavi in the office were boring. Having explained Shikhar’s character in detail in the first two chapters itself, all these convos could have been cut off. Also, why would Madhavi speak only about books to someone who was not at all interested in books? Given the male protagonist’s phone and internet obsession, the author shouldn’t have gone too deep in explaining the same. Shantanu’s sudden change regarding the appraisal was not up to the mark. Also, Shikhar writing a book all of a sudden was unbelievable. (3/5)

Characterization: Deepak and Manisha ‘s characterization were okay. Raghav’s condition actually depicted the state of many youngsters today. Dr.Net not’s back story was realistic. Shantanu’s characterization was okayish. Shikhar’s mom and dad resembled typical Indian parents. Vikramaditya’s character could have been given more importance. (4/5)

My overall verdict: 4/5

After a brief respite from Christmas reading, I'm back to it! I've borrowed One Day in December from the library and I'm about a quarter through it. .

So far it's definitely the festive rom-com I was hoping it would be! I'm in the mood for light and happy reading and it's even better that it's mostly set around Christmas time.
.
I hope you're all enjoying your week! .

"Il cielo vive dentro di me. "

#QOTD - what's the book you randomly picked up, and surprisingly couldn't put it down?

I picked up the first book of the series while doing a non-fiction and couldn't stop until I completed all three. The story is well written, makes your curious, has a sense of righteousness, and is totally, and totally captivating. The series needs no more introduction - one of the best fictional series I've read for it's simple language and plot, yet which manages to keep you hooked till the end.

Rating - 4/5

I am definitely showing my my age when I say, I still have my original AOL email. Like many other 80s babies, I am not married to my phone and I don't need to constantly update my friends and followers with where I am and what I'm doing. Ok, I do like to post to Facebook and Instagram but, my profiles are private and let's be honest these are 20th century inventions. My parents biggest worries while I was growing up were making sure I was eating my vegetables and making sure my older sister and I got along.
Nowadays, most kids own a tablet or have access to one and even with parental controls they can easily fall into a chat room or find a questionable website. Want to Go Private by Sarah Darer Littman shows just how easily this could happen.
She tells a story of a shy teenager chatting with her friends who stumbles into a conversation with an older boy. While the age difference doesn't seem like a huge deal the request for pictures and videos while chatting privately soon raises red flags. She has heard the horror stories of online creepers but, Luke isn't creepy and he loves her, so she complies.
Yep, it's a cautionary tale, we've all been warned about but the reality is, it happens everyday in homes worldwide. If you're a parent, be ready to increase your parental controls while reading this book, and if you're not, STAY AWAY FROM CREEPERS but, do read Want to Go Private by Sarah Darer Littman.

Imagine opening up the classifieds and seeing an ad to live and get paid to live in what you perceive as paradise. Insane opportunity, a dream come true even. You eagerly go to meet the landlord despite the strange rules, no visitors, no nights spent away, and above all you must never bother the rich and famous who you will soon be sharing walls. You happily accept. (For me, it would be a castle in Ireland, butlers and maids at my back and call but, I digress.)
In Riley Sager's Lock Every Door, you will be overcome with excitement, then fear for the unknown, like what are those noises and why do the other renters keep disappearing? Like, I'm all for haunted houses, my husband and I pay to be scared every Halloween, multiple time, but I wouldn't want to find myself LIVING in a haunted house like the main character Jules.
In typical Sager style, I thought I knew where this was headed, I was very very wrong. I found this book hard to put down. 5 of 5 🧀🧀🧀🧀🧀

At this point, I assume most of us have given into the fad that is escape rooms. I know my husband and I can't leave the house without him asking me if we could possibly fit in an escape room while we are out. They are a really fun group activity and they really test your knowledge and your ability to use your strengths with others to escape. But, what if you fall asleep in your own bed, snuggled up next to your snoring pug and you wake up in a sort of elevator shaft with not people you know and trust but, acquaintances you have seen and just from the short exchanges you've had, you know they are not to be trusted? Scary right? Megan Goldin's The Escape Room makes that nightmare come true.
As you come to and try to place where you are and why you're there, you see a daunting message, "Welcome to the escape room, your goal is simple, get out alive."
These four competitive co-workers must now work together to set aside differences and try to solve cryptic clues and do just what it says, stay alive
Lots of twists and turns, like being in a hall of mirrors at a carnival. Just when you think you know who is responsible, she surprises you.
Recommend 5 of 5 🧀🧀🧀🧀🧀 #bookish#reviewing#reading#banter#booksncoffee#snuggleupandread#followforfollow#bookobsessed#bookreview#bookstagrammers#bookreviewer#booknerd#bookworm#booklover#bookaddict#booksbooksbooks#penguinbooks#bookstagramchoiceawards#booksparks#booksandbeans#megangolden

Qotd: which of these holiday pattern do you like best? Foxes and bears, buffalo plaid, or trucks and trees? .
I just added all of these prints to my shop, in both padded and quilted style, and two of the three qualify for my 25% off instant Christmas discount 😘
.
Also I need my Queen of Nothing copy, but it doesn’t look like it will arrive until tomorrow, and I’m dying inside 😅

Alright alright... I read it. I'm late to the game on this one, and I’m sorry. The book is very good, which I’m sure you have heard by now. The reading experience was a little clunky for me at times, and I’m not really sure why. The chapters were short, the story was fun, and the characters were good. I didn’t move through this one as fast as I assumed I would, since everyone loves it so much. This is not a “scary” book, but it is dark and involves some themes that are a bit disturbing. If you were waiting for me to read this to decide for yourself (I’m sure you haven’t been doing that), pick it up. You’ll like it a lot. 🦋

I’ve really been making an effort to stop scrolling through Instagram so much and spend more time actually reading. My reading has really slowed down lately, but there are a bunch of books that I’m anxious to read. My friend @salison133 recommended this book to me, and I’m hoping to get to it soon! What are you currently reading?

Fedora protesta: “¡Cortenla, pelotudas, vamos a terminar llorando!"

I’ve been back from Denmark for a few days now, but not only have I gone Full Hygge but I’m also planning a quick return trip via this next read. It’s the first book in Sara Blaedel’s famous Louise Rick series, and as Blaedel has been named Denmark’s Queen of Crime and voted its favourite author on more than one occasion, I am very very much looking forward to diving in 🇩🇰 🕯🔍

"A reading major, that's what he wants. No response papers, no exams, no analysis, just the reading." - The Starless Sea
.
I thought it's still weekend. 😄 We're back home now after staying with my in-laws. I haven't read a lot lately so that's what i'm going to do tonight. I'm hoping to finish The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern. 😊 I still have around 150 pages left. How was your weekend? What are you reading?

16

i know i said i wouldn’t bring home anymore library books but...
‘lady killers’ was too irresistible to not check out.
between it & the other intriguing books on my tbr, i feel hopeful that i’ll be reading a remarkable book soon. i’ve read a lot of mediocre books lately. 😒
— what is the last remarkable book you read?

34

Thank you to @williammorrowbooks @randomhouse & @gallerybooks for sending these gifted titles my way!

The holidays are approaching which means seasonal reads & romance to keep me extra cozy and hygge 💁🏼‍♀️ to be honest I haven’t read a TON of romance so far this year, and what better time than the holidays to read something sweet, light & smart, too. I read Winter Street by Elin Hilderbrand a couple of years back, and I want more books like this one for the upcoming months.

I’m always looking for more recommendations, so tell me: what is your favorite romance? Do you like to read holiday themed books in November December? Have any favorites?
