Hi, everyone. I’ve been feeling super irritated & tired, but that’s my fault for listening to music until 4 in the morning and waking up at 3 in the afternoon. 🤦♀️ Anyway . . .
God in Pink! Wow! Another book read in one sitting. It tells the story of two people in modern-day Iraq: Remy, who is a gay man living with his Muslim family and feels pressured to adhere to cultural traditions to keep his identity secret. The other character is Ammar, a sheik who receives Remy’s letter and wrestles with the Qur’an’s/society’s teachings on homosexuality as well as his own homophobia. God in Pink is also a spectacular novel that addresses gay issues in a Middle Eastern country, where homosexuality is often condemned and met with violence. In 10 countries within the region today, homosexuality is illegal. In six of them, homosexuality is punishable by death.
It’s important to acknowledge and support the LGBT+ community outside of + alongside European/North American countries, paying attention to issues that are specific within the region. I also believe that LGBT+ communities within the Middle East, Asia, Oceania, Africa, and Latin America don’t get as much visibility - there’s been some stories in the news - but it’s our responsibility to educate ourselves on global LGBT+ issues and pinpoint opportunities to support them.
#pwowreadingchallenge19 - Read a book by a Muslim author
- Read a book by a queer person of color

I would like you to please do some research on LGBT+ communities/issues in a non-European/non-North American country.
