As Dima had offered me on the eve, on #Monday evening, after having studied thoroughly #German, the two of us went with a clear #conscious to the nearby-lying café under the nice Italian name “Trattoria”. Indeed, one and a half hour of German was a big thing both for me and for my grown-up student: I brought Dima some #basics of German #grammar and in parallel asked him to compose short questions or sentences with the newly learned material. No time for hesitation, nor weighing which answer would suit Olga better, nor reflecting on the correctness of the things he was going to pronounce… nothing alike was given to Dima, and on purpose. Otherwise, Dima would begin to dig into long, dull and not really #productive thoughts whether he was speaking properly or made mistakes… Since long ago I didn’t meet a person (either and adult or a kid), being so much afraid of saying something wrong… or even not wrong… of saying something at all. That’s why our #Germanlesson was developing at a very intensive pace – Dima had no time to spend on doubts, and thus, was able to #proceed with #learning the #language.
Nevertheless, from time to time he still got distracted by secondary #thoughts on family, work and money, but I should also admit, Dima did his best and bent over backward, wishing to understand the #fundamental mechanisms of the foreign language. I tried to notice in good time when Dima grew tired, and immediately delivered him a gulp of fresh air – in the form of curious #experiences from my own life, both on German and general life topics. Indeed it’s crucial to be highly involved in the #learningprocess, but without overdoing it (too much of pushing yourself is never good in any domain); you should indulge yourself with regular breaks and #distractions; since if not, and you persist in your #endeavour, regardless the state of your mind, you’ll undergo a menace to lose everything you’ve just acquired, and, thus, start from zero...
