Empathy elevates influence!
Read the inspiring article in latest issue of Spotlight Magazine by Niina Majaniemi.
Nina is a finnish woman, 39. A writer and a runner. Empathy in leadership and customer experience - advocate. MBA from international business management, married and a proud aunt of seven lights of my life. That passion for writing about empathy in leadership ignited during my MBA research – a thesis selected among top three Finnish HR theses 2017 – when discovering that managers value empathy in new employees. I believe that obstacles in life can bring something positive too. I have been unemployed once and used that time to start volunteering, which turned out to be one of the best decisions I´ve made. I volunteer to help bring elderly people suffering from loneliness back into society. Senior citizens are often forgotten; when I wrote about the topic, it was the least read article of mine. This shows a need for more awareness to make people care.
I combine running and traveling; each year I run a full or half-marathon in some warm climate, next time in Cayman Islands. Maybe I crave the sun and sea because I live in Scandinavia or because I was born by the sea and spent my childhood playing in the sand dunes. Sitting in my rowing boat at the lake is like meditation. Running has taught me perseverance, how to achieve goals, patience, and acceptance. I believe in making others shine, and sharing positive energy.
My next paper “The most sought after emotional intelligence skills for managers in Finland and in the western world and how we can develop them” cowritten with Keijo Varis will be published in Journal of Leadership, Accountability and Ethics of The North American Business Press vol 15/2, 2018. The core topic of my articles is empathy in leadership and customer success management. To connect with me, check my instagram @niinajoanna or Linkedin where you can find my articles.
