Practicing my plant science in a colourful way.
My old girl spider plant was potted up not too long ago, and even with the bigger space she still seems distressed, which is why she's still putting out a spiderette stem. I figure if it's not space she's seeking, perhaps it's nutrients?
Fun fact: indoor plants need to have the nutrients and minerals in their soil replenished after a long while. In the wilds, they'd spread their roots out in search of new nutrient rich spots. In the home however, they are confined to a pot, unable to seek out those yummy minerals.
This colourful test shows the conditions of old girls soil. It's rich in nitrogen and the PH balance is ideal, but there are low levels of potash and phosphorus. Some bone meal and a potash mix should help.
That's my little science blurb for today. Hope it was insightful.
