By denying or attempting to suppress a specific thought, it’s been found to make it more prominent. This is known as the White Bear Problem.
Diet regimes which require you to omit food groups, or remove completely foods that you have habitually consumed throughout your life are rarely something that can be sustained long term.
Very Low Calorie Diets cause a person to in effect starve themselves during the week, leading to an inevitable crash at the weekend where we will then, often subconsciously, make up for the things we ‘missed out on’ during the week as a treat or reward. Problem being, this then overconsumption tends to hike our overall weekly calorie input to higher than it would have been had we just been sensible throughout the week and kept things more even.
When it comes to weight loss and calories, less isn’t always more. Just as you wouldn’t attempt to squat 300kg on your 1st time in the gym, slamming the calories all the way down straight away will ultimately hinder your progress.
The principle of progressive overload, or underload in this case, is the way to go.
Small steps people, you can’t rush nature.
