Run baby run! 3+ years ago we decided we’d run our first half marathon, the Brooklyn Half! Three years later & still running strong . The BK half is always my favorite because it was my first and always marks the start of [almost] summer! Also this year was extra special because I'm now a Brooklyn resident ♂️ ♂️
New personal record! 1:44:40- beating my 2013 time of 1:44:51.
I wrote this plan down the night before the Brooklyn Half Marathon. I was aiming for 8 minutes flat per mile, and this plan accounts for some of the geographic trickiness of the landscape.
I had to run a bit faster than 8s at the end to catch up, but I finished with a 7:59 per mile average.
Running is very much a mind body practice. I'm humbled and amazed that I can plan my movement through space with precision. I was concerned by the rainy conditions over the entire time, but perhaps the cooling was helpful.
My Garmin watch was off by .2 miles but my split times according to it were as follows:
Another BK Half in the books. Didn’t let the rain slow me down because I got a new PR! Paying for it though because my whole body is still aching like crazy. Who got the magic masseuse hands?? #brooklynhalf#massageneeded#nopainnogain
I saw this lady run her first 5k a couple months ago and yesterday I saw her cross the finish line of her first half marathon.
I can’t say enough wonderful things about the this woman’s accomplishments because I need to stop bawling happy tears on my phone right now while I’m writing this because it’s a phone and it’s not waterproof and it already had a tough day yesterday running in the rain.
I sure do hope she’ll train with me for the marathon this summer.
This first picture here was the single best second of my day yesterday. Thank you, Kiki.
Second half marathon on the books! #PopularBKHalf was an awesome #race, I hot a #PR, improved my time by 11 minutes, finishing it in 1 hour 44 min and keeping an average pace at 8:00!!! This was such a big #accomplishment for me as I am 2 weeks out from my first #npcbikini show , and being on a crazy #workout and #diet regimen for 12 weeks, eating less then my body needs, not resting enough made it harder to run 13.1 miles ♀️Although proper preparation for the race, loading with carbs and hydrating my body the day before and getting good 8 hours of sleep the night prior to the race gave me wings and I was flying Such a great feeling at the finish line! Can’t wait for the next one!
Ok, one more. Because yesterday was AWESOME!! My first half marathon, 13.1 miles in the rain, and the best I’ve ever ran. The sideline cheerers are the true #brooklynhalf heroes! Here are some share-worthy signs seen along the way:
1. This is a very boring parade
2. Only 13 miles to go! (Near starting line)
3. You thought they said rum, didn’t you?
Successfully completed a half marathon in the rainiest weather I’ve ever run in, with the least amount of training ever and to the glory of the greatest God whose desire is to heal and does so without conditions... particularly the ones I place on myself. I don’t know how else to describe the joy of knowing & experiencing that firsthand. I’m still processing...Ask me about it. What a weekend it’s been- my heart is full. Congrats to all! #popularbkhalf#brooklynhalf#nyc
