Wow, what a day! Got up early for a morning hunt. The weather was beautiful. 34 degrees, no wind, clear skies. It was dark for a little bit, but soon enough the birds started chirping, the sun started peeking over the trees and I sat in the brush with high hopes. Just a few minutes in, this beautiful buck came walking out. I couldn't believe it! The one deer I wanted! I hadn't seen him on the game camera lately so I didn't know what to expect. He nearly spooked before I got a shot, but he finally gave me a quarting-toward angle. Boy, do I appreciate this harvest! I didn't tag any last year and this will likely be my only tag this year, but you better believe I'll be out there again soon!
The Broadhead: While cutting away his right shoulder, my knife struck something. I saw the black shaft and was very confused for a second. "What? What is this?" And then it hit me. "Holy smokes, this deer was shot with an arrow!" Upon further inspection, the injury appeared old, probably from last season. There was scar tissue, no open wounds or noticeable inflammation. However, there was a cyst on the surface of the shoulder, just under his hide. No other signs of infection.
Must have been very painful to be walking around with a broadhead in his shoulder.
