My goal for the remainder of 2019 is to seriously reduce waste.
Wasted packaging - reducing single serving food wraps and single use packaging. Replacing with bulk foods from farmers markets and bulk food stores where you bring your own containers. Also making home cooked treats and increasing home grown fruit and veg is extremely satisfying, healthy and sustainable.
Wasted energy - reducing excess heating and air conditioning by dressing in light, cooler clothes on hot days as well as using natural cooling foods like cucumber, mint green tea and pineapple. Then warmer layered clothing on cold days and adding warming foods like ginger, cinnamon, capsicum, soups.
Wasted purchases - repairing old shoes, clothing and household items before buying new ones, make gifts instead of buying more “stuff”. Occasionally walking or riding instead of driving saves fuel $ and the environment, shopping locally helps the community and reduces environmental footprint from mileage and packaging, reusing and repairing items instead of adding to landfill, etc.
All of these simple things will save money, preserve resources and stimulate thinking and new skills whilst setting a good example for the next generation.
Wish me luck
