The goal was to focus on the areas that tend to get neglected. Iโ€™ve been obsessed with developing #symmetrical calves for a very long time. A muscle that has to be shocked and overworked in a training session because it carries out natural body weight daily. Hitting all three directions, to attack the inner, outer and Soleus (larger muscle in the calf). I am one of those that feel as if I have to do abs in order to see results. Again having a slimmer midsection is the result of doing core work; seeing abs or the definition is nutrition ( calories intake; Carbs cycling with Healthy Fats ect). And finally some cardio, in which I did first! To warm my body up and to set my pace for this session.

Tried to punish those calves after a tough leg day. Try a 3 second hold on the drop and again at the peak of the raise. Gonna pay for this in a couple days.

What up IG fam. I know itโ€™s been a while. Iโ€™ve still been in the gym, but it has taken a back seat as I started working full time and stressing about my living situation. Iโ€™ve gotten thru it all and now I am coming back to be better than ever.

Goals: Continue powerbuilding style workouts and get leaner.
Stay consistent with creatine and lifting days.
Clean up my diet and move around more at work.

Thereโ€™s really no such thing as stubborn calves. Genetics do separate the good from the great, but almost anyone can achieve good calves, you just have to train them right! Still working on mine btw ๐Ÿ˜‚

For a while I was under the impression that my calves were genetically cursed. I had seen so much over the years about the role of genetics in calve development and never really made an effort to look outside of that box.
โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
Eventually I got tired of having tiny calves and stopped making excuses. I started doing some research into calve growth, and hereโ€™s what Iโ€™ve learned:
โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
In daily life, whenever you move your ankle, for example when you walk, your Achillesโ€™ tendon is what does a majority of the work. The calves do contract, but if it werenโ€™t for this tendonโ€™s strong stretch-reflex, the calve muscles would tire out way too fast. Unfortunately, this same thing that makes it easy for us to walk, also makes it hard to grow calves ๐Ÿ™„
โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
To make your calves grow, you have to avoid any help from the Achillesโ€™ tendon while youโ€™re training them. You can do this by putting your calves through a full range of motion and maximizing time under tension.
โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
Start by using a weight that allows 15+ reps, this high amount of reps will give you more opportunity to make a good mind muscle connection.
โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
Next comes the SLOW tempo.
โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
1๏ธโƒฃ Start each set by lowering your heels to the bottom position. Feel the stretch in your calves and start to engage them here.
2๏ธโƒฃ Raise your calves with some force, then pause at the top for 2-3 seconds. Focus on flexing your calves at the top of the rep.
3๏ธโƒฃ Slowly lower your heels to the starting position and pause at the bottom before bringing them back up. This portion should take around 3 seconds.
โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
Once your form is dialed in, its just a matter of training frequency. If you want big calves, you should be working them 3 days a week, minimum. If you canโ€™t make it to the gym, the stairs at your house will do just fine. Shoot for hitting failure 4 times per session and make sure you get a good stretch in afterwards ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿผ
