《Throwback 9/25》CAMBODIA, November 2015.
Unfortunately here my HDD crashed and I've lost all my pictures from Cambodia, all the Angkor temples, the crystal clear beaches and the jungle adventures. Although being a paradise for the sun the parties and also an interesting country by its history, I feel like it's maybe the only country I'll probably never go back again. The constant treatment you receive as "a white tourist" kinda made me feel as a walking wallet, the dirt, the heat, and I haven't had great experiences like other countries around. Amongst the pictures I managed to keep, that one is not the most impressive but I really like it as it brings me back strong feelings. Wana (aka Mr Bean) was our tuk tuk driver for few days. He was always laughing, smiling and crackin a joke for us, before he revealed us his whole story. His parents got killed in front of him when he was 17, while he had two AK47 on his head during the Cambodian genocide, while he was working hard in rice fields. After 3 years he got captured and forced to join the army. His M16 bullet holes on his left arm and his 'plastic front arm' like he says, testify his story as well as his words. He made us visit war museum and told us all the techniques to survive, and how the Khmer rouge were killing people without any particular reason, but always with absolute brutality. He now lives as a Tuk Tuk driver for tourists because hopefully he can speak well English. He prefers backpackers tho and always try to give us good spots and have discount price for food or drinks. Me, the German girl and my two Danish mates with whom I've traveled for already a month couldn't refuse his invitation to share few cans of Angkor beer, a bit of chicken liver and fried chicken feet at his modest house in the country side. Because in my travels, I've learned that most of the time people matter more than the actual destination you're going. "See you when you see me" as he used to say #throwback #travelling #backpacking #portrait #blackandwhite #blackandwhiteportrait #cambodia
