I found myself in Psalms 144 this morning and the latter part of the chapter is perfect for farm families as we watch and wait and trust that those crops will make it to the bins in a few months with sufficient rains in the meantime and protection from hail.. but before the farming part it touches on stuff even more important in the grand scheme of things .. vs 12 ‘Then our sons in their youth will be like well-nurtured plants’,
This is the important stuff of parenting .. that our sons (and grandsons) would be well-nurtured.” They are not trees growing in the wild, but rather trees planted ‘by hand in a location specially chosen to produce the best growth’ (there is a Grand Designer working in the background).. Rooted deep in good soil (prepared by us with God’s help) who will flourish at a young age with pure thoughts, noble actions and and intentions pointed in right direction .. which doesn’t happen by accident but by intentional parenting.. 12 cont. ‘and our daughters will be like pillars carved to adorn a palace.’ Godly daughters (granddaughters) are both beautiful and strong. They hold the family together and serve as the connecting point for everything else. They are at the center of family life. Everything flows to them and through them.
Note the difference between the tree and the column. The oak tree stands outside the home, while the column upholds the home with strength and beauty. The corner pillar is the strength of the home itself. When the column is weak, the house itself is weak. When the corner pillar is strong, the house can stand against the storms that rise against it.
Graceful and useful, educated and full of wisdom
Beautiful and strong,
Polished and perfectly placed.
Polished with Godly Character
These are some thoughts from a commentary I found on the verse but it rings true. It’s a tall order to raise young men and women from babes to adulthood but when we do it right it effects the world and many generations to come in a good way so keep on keeping on young parents .. you have a noble calling
