Five Questions with: Darla Bernstein
Get to know some of the people who make Community Health Plan of Washington a great place to work. See what drew them to work at CHPW, what they like about their jobs, and how they deal with Seattle winters.
Meet Darla Bernstein! She's a Director of Care Management in Health Services and is looking forward to starting a Master's program this fall.
Q: How long have you been with Community Health Plan of Washington and what is your current role?
I’ve been with CHPW for almost three months as the Director of Care Management in the Health Services division. The Care Management Department includes the Case Management team, Transitions of Care team, Care Coordination and Community Linkages team, and Population Heath team.
Q: What do you most enjoy about your work at CHPW?
It’s tough to just pick one thing! First of all, I am really impressed with the people here. Everyone works hard but they are able to still have a little fun, too. There is a prevailing sense of kindness and respect of each other, and I believe that same behavior is noticeable when we are interacting with our customers. But, I have to add that I also love how nimble this company is! Because it’s not a huge corporate company, we can change directions quickly to adapt to requirements and needs as they arise. It’s refreshing to be able to focus on what truly matters and swiftly adjust to changes in the landscape of the managed healthcare world.
Q: Why did you choose to pursue a career in health care?
I actually stumbled into it. I was in well along the process of becoming an engineer, and not really enjoying it.
