The importance of celebration
I’ve always loved celebrating special occasions - be that birthdays, holidays, weddings, loved ones’ special achievements, or the nature festivals that I celebrate as part of my spiritual practice. I remember as a child the incredible excitement and anticipation I would feel in the run-up to Christmas as we chose our tree, got the decorations down from the loft and started to prepare special food for the holidays. Although the prospect of gifts and yummy food was obviously very exciting to a child, there was something else that thrilled me even more - the sense of ritual, the coziness and closeness, and the feeling of coming together as a family and spending time doing nice things for one another and just enjoying each other’s company. There was a special kind of magic about times like Christmas, and when I think about it now I realise that what we were really celebrating was our love for each other.
Now, as an adult, it’s just as important to me to take time to celebrate the special moments with the people I love. I want to acknowledge my beautiful friend @rebeccathoughts for always making it a priority to celebrate with the people in her life. As soon as I got engaged she organised a special celebratory dinner for us and treated me to the most gorgeous evening. And while the delicious food and fantastic champagne were a wonderful treat, as we shared stories and toasted my exciting news, I knew that what we were really celebrating was love... not only the love that my partner and I share, but our love for each other as friends.
