#medalmonday with my reward for my very first ultra, the 50k distance at yesterday's Canadian River Valley Revenge in the heart of Edmonton, Alberta.
I have put in over 1000 kilometers of footwork since January alone to get to this point. Hill work, speedwork, road races and singletracks. Marathons and Spartans. Solo grinds and gabfests with friends. Through rain, heat and hypothermic conditions. Early morning sunrises and runs where it would be dangerous to go without a headlamp. Hip bursitis, achilles pain, IT band inflammation. 10lbs of training weight loss while trying to maintain muscle mass via crosstraining.
This pretty little ceramic finisher represents a whole community of acquaintances and true friends who I have been grateful to meet and join under the warm blanket of the @edmontontrailrunners group.
Eight solid months of learning to run/enjoying running/becoming a runner. It represents my endurance ability and mental health- as the slog got more grueling I actually found myself enjoying it more. Gimme all the challenges, every last one of them! It's just a few golf balls, you can do better than that! What, a giant hill? And then I hear that voice right behind me, "we walk up the hills, Tess." Oh, right! Thank you @isafitmom
Next month is the peak race, the whole reason I began this crazy journey. The Spartan Ultra Beast in Kimberley BC. Dude I'm so excited. Will I see you there?
