Each week MoeDee's Podcast will be highlighting a Cheetahs Player of the Week in addition to winning the weekly i9 Sports Sportsmanship Value Medal. I will include picture montage and the postgame "interview". This week's Cheetahs Players of the week was Oziel Sanchez Padilla. The Sportsmanship Value Medal was for Courtesy
I have coached Oziel for a little more than a year, 1 seasons in NYS and 3 seasons in i9 Sports! Oziel is always smiling and in a joyful mood. He brightens up my day whenever I see him!
What is really amazing is that Oziel is one of the youngest players on the team and still in pre-school competing against 1st and 2nd graders! With so many children from the previous two teams not playing soccer with us in the spring I asked Oziel to play a different role and he has really flourished! Way more active defensively, also dribbles and carries the ball more! Through 3 games Oziel has 7 goals (4 on the pitch)
I always joke with Oziel's mother (Eyvid) how Oziel came to our team. He has an older brother who played on a soccer team that practiced at Sunview Park the same time we did. One day after practice, Eyvid introduced herself to me and asked how old the age group was for our team and if I had any room for her son. I gave her my number and NYS' office contact information. Thinking she isn't really gonna sign him up. Because I so many returning players on my team I told the NYS office please don't assign any new players on my team. Then that Monday the office called me saying a lady is here in the office trying to sign up for your team and we told her you aren't accepting any new players. I asked to speak to her and it was Eyvid! That was over a year ago! What a blessing Oziel has been to the team. I have enjoyed getting know him and his family.
