Last Friday, a Chattanooga, Tennessee jury found Rhasean Lowry, 37, guilty of murder and aggravated child abuse in the August 26, 2014 death of 3-year-old Tatiana Emerson.
Lowry received an automatic life sentence for the murder conviction and will return to court in January 2018 for sentencing on his child abuse charge.
Lowry is Tatiana’s mother’s boyfriend. At the time of Tatiana’s death, Lowry was living at an Econo Lodge hotel with Tatiana’s mother, and three children in total.
Lowry told police he went to get milk and coffee from the lobby before Tatiana fell down a flight of stairs that morning. He said he watched Tatiana climb the stairs and trip near the top.
Lowry drove her to hospital around 10 a.m., but Tatiana lost consciousness on the way and died three days later. She had sustained numerous bruises and retinal bleeding.
Prosecutors showed that the medical evidence pointed to her having been beaten.
"These are intentional acts," prosecutor Cameron Williams said. "These are 70 blows, 70 inflicted injuries. On the right side of her face, left side of her face, the back of her head. On her trunk, abdomen, back, bottom, legs."
Prosecutors said Lowry lied about her falling down the stairs to cover up the fact that he beat Tatiana to death.
Tatiana’s mother Melanie Emerson, has a pending aggravated child endangerment case.
Finally, a small measure of justice for this precious baby. Continue to sleep peacefully Tatiana...
