Last night's dinner was the classic Sichuan dish of Hotpot. 🌶️🌶️🌶️
I was terrified by the idea of this as I am RUBBISH with spicy food! However, I was fed up of trapsing around (and as usual I was hungry!) so I agreed to go in. My goodness am I glad we went here! .
You are sat down on a little table with a gas ring in the middle of it. As the menu was only on a phone app in Chinese, and nobody spoke any English, the waitress was very patient with us ordering via Google Translate. We ended up with beef tenderloin, beef rolls filled with mushrooms and bean shoots, pork meatballs and some veg.
Finally you choose your spice ratio. The locals all go for the large outer ring as their spicy one and the small inner ring as their non-spicy. We had the opposite. 😬
The 'soup' is brought to the table and placed on the gas ring. You wait until it is boiling and then place your choices in the boiling broth to cook.
So far definitely the best food we have eaten in China and also a great experience. It's going to take something big to beat it!
