Happy Saturday y'all! Today was day 4 of my drive and I finally made it to my new home. On the drive today, I smoked a La Gloria Cubana Churchill Maduro.
Appearance and Construction: This was a nice dark, oily stick. It looked well constructed, but had one soft spot. There were no big veins, and feels very firm, which was worrying to me.
Flavor: Getting all the flavor notes was difficult due to the fact that I was smoking this on my drive, but I think I got at least the primary notes. The first third opened with flavors of coffee (primarily espresso), earth, woods, and nuts. The second third introduced some pepper that I didn’t catch in the first third, but it paired well with the other notes that remained in it. The final third introduced some hay like smell that gave an interesting end to this cigar. All around, the flavors of this cigar were pretty straight cut from beginning to end.
Smoking Characteristics: The smoking characteristics were not great on this cigar. The burn was terrible. I had to touch it up multiple times. The draw was very tight, and as the cigar was being smoked, the wrapper was cracking because of how tightly it was rolled. The smoke amount was not too good either, but that also was due to it being too firmly rolled. The only plus on this was the ash held on great.
Overall Experience: This cigar was kind of disappointing. I was expecting better from it. I wanted to put it down a couple times because the draw and burn was annoying me. The flavor was pretty good, and I have a couple more in my humidor so I’ll have to try it again, and if it changes my mind on this, I’ll put out a new review.
