MOVIE REVIEW: #Mirai (2018), the #AcademyAwards-nominated film for best animated feature, is a solid Japanese animated movie, but it's not the best we've ever seen. The animation itself is lush and interesting, but the story is a bit all over the place. It's a premise you'll have to be on board with right away, or you'll lose interest quickly. It combines serious personal and familial topics with enchanting fantasy with a rather basic deviation of the message "you'll understand when you are older" presented in a semi-magical fashion. We found ourselves enjoying it, but not absolutely loving it. Our rating: 6.5/10! #Oscars #Oscars2019 #animatedmovie #MamoruHosoda #moviereview #cinematography #japanesemovie #firsttimewatch #lololovesfilms #moviegeek #cinephilecommunity #movieoftheday #rottentomatoes #cinephile #movienerd

What does this movie mean to you????? Movie: Fight Club 1999
⚡️Warning at the beginning of the film—“Warning: If you are reading this then this warning is for you. Every word you read of this useless fine print is another second off your life. Don’t you have other things to do? Is your life so empyty that you honestly can’t think of a better way to spend these moments? Or are you so impressed with authority that you give respect and credence to all who claim it? Do you read everything you’re supposed to read? Do you think everything you’re supposed to think? Buy what you’re told you should want? Get out of your apartment. Meet a member off the opposite sex. Stop the excessive shopping and masturbation. Quit your job. Start a fight. Prove you’re alive. If you don’t claim your humanity you will become a statistic. You have been warned ……. Tyler”

Fred Astaire and Rita Hayworth rehearse in You'll Never Get Rich. 1941.⁣

Hayworth, who came from a family of dancers, was one of Astaire's favorite partners.⁣

"She learned steps faster than anyone I've ever known," Astaire once said. "I'd show her a routine before lunch. She'd be back right after lunch and have it down to perfection. She apparently figured it out on her mind while she was eating."

💥Trivia: One of the rare movies to receive 0 Stars by legendary movie critic Roger Ebert. An excerpt Ebert's Review: "It's so bad, maybe you should pool your money and draw straws and send one of the guys off to rent it so that in the future, whenever you think you're sitting through a bad comedy, he could shake his head, and chuckle tolerantly, and explain that you don't know what bad is".
.
.
.
💥Trivia: The film's producer, Paul Malansky says that original feedback on the film was that it was not gross enough. "What are you trying to do?, make a damned Tootsie?" said one executive. "Paul, it doesn't fit the formula; it needs more flatulence, more slobbishness, more T&A.," said another. So more vulgar scenes were added accordingly. For example the podium scene.

#Watching Cruel Intentions (1999)

There was no way I wasn't going to indulge in the guilty pleasure that is Cruel Intentions, apologies for the double negative. I was originally going to find a theater screening it today but (A) none are REASONABLY close to me and (B) I'm tired and I dont think I can handle hanging around the crowd this would obvs attractive. I saw this movie in theaters when it came out, at the ripe age of 9, so once I lay that story on you..you'll know why I'd like to keep that as my only movie viewing 👽. I'll have a TLDR review for you lovely individuals tomorrow TOUT DE SUITE!

Jordan Peele’s follow up to the excellent “Get Out” had the potential to be a real horror classic. Instead it gets weighed down in its own pretentiousness, and in the end ultimately becomes rather a frustrating watch.
To even briefly mention the basis of the plot would be a spoiler so suffice to say that this is kind of a home invasion film that goes batshit crazy. Literally.
I was onboard for most of the first half, it’s well acted, nicely filmed and edited and has an effective musical score which creates a great sense of terror and dread. It has the atmosphere, it has the tension, it’s just that it all falls apart once you figure out what the hell is going off. The explanation for what is happening is so ‘out there’ that it’s pretty comical and thus I lost all investment in it because I was completely taken aback by the absurdity of what was unfolding before my eyes.
It’s a real shame as Jordan Peele has shown that he is a real talent behind the camera, I just fear that after the success of his break out film that he has been given full control to do what ever he likes. He reminds me a lot of Nicolas Winding Refn, director of one of my all time favourite films “Drive”, which is in my opinion a flat out masterpiece. However since then he has made some real stinkers.
I hope this isn’t the case with Jordan Peele.
