What are books or movies that remind you of your childhood?
.
.
I am so thankful for the books and movies that my Mom pressed into my hands. While others my age were watching Disney movies or cartoons (nothing wrong with those, just not my cup of tea☕️), I was more interested in the movies of The Secret Garden, Little Women, and Anne of Green Gables. I remember watching Shirley Temple and the Little Princess too. Anne Shirley, Jo March and Mary Lennox have stayed in my heart over the years and I consider them my kindred spirits❤️
.
.
I’d love to hear what some of your favorites were as children! Also, I am loving my new bookmark from @lyndseydrawsitagain 😍😍😍 it’s perfect for my current reread of Little Women this month!

They’re here! Jane Austen fans need to get their hands on SANDITON and THE WORLD OF SANDITON before the @masterpiecepbs show premieres in January! Austen started this novel only months before her passing and now, Kate Riordan has finished it. The seaside town the story is set in is the perfect escape for winter weather!

In the fall of 2009, @ms_magazine featured two writers we adore on their cover: The magazine's co-founder, @gloriasteinem, and one of her friends (and former editor at Ms. magazine, author Alice Walker. At the link in our bio, you can read Steinem's thoughts on the Walker book you probably know best, The Color Purple. (Spoiler alert–it's a good review.)

😊Bonjour !
🎁

📣Calling all Jane Austen fans!

In the nineteenth century, inexpensive editions of Jane Austen's novels targeted to Britain's working classes were sold at railway stations, traded for soap wrappers, and awarded as school prizes. At just pennies a copy, these reprints were some of the earliest mass-market paperbacks, with Austen's beloved stories squeezed into tight columns on thin, cheap paper. Few of these hard-lived bargain books survive, yet they made a substantial difference to Austen's early readership. These were the books bought and read by ordinary people.

Packed with nearly 100 full-color photographs of dazzling, sometimes gaudy, sometimes tasteless covers, The Lost Books of Jane Austen is a unique history of these rare and forgotten Austen volumes. Such shoddy editions, Janine Barchas argues, were instrumental in bringing Austen's work and reputation before the general public. Only by examining them can we grasp the chaotic range of Austen's popular reach among working-class readers.

Thanks @tlcbooktours @jhupress for sending this copy my way!

Now that I've read my first Dickens book (A Christmas Carol), I want to start reading more of his novels. I've been accumulating them for years, knowing that one day I'll read them and love them... Which was in fact the case with A Christmas Carol, so YAY!📖💕
What Dickens book is your favorite/Which one do you think I should I start with?

P.S. How beautiful are these handsome fellas!!
P.P.S Can you tell I love the color green?!? 🎄💚🌿

Hello friends! Happy Tuesday 😊 .
.
This is the first photo of my last row in my rainbow theme. I’m already sad and missing it 😢 it was so much fun to have the colours of the rainbow reflected on my feed. The colours make me happy, and I like to think they made others happy too! Now back to the drawing board for picture ideas 🤔 .
.
Pictured here are my two favourite books in black (although there easily could have been more because I have so many in this colour). They are Tess of the d’Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy and Persuasion by Jane Austen. Yes, I love classics, and these two in particular have my whole heart. .
.
Speaking of classics, I’m currently attempting to finish off a classic horror book: IT by Stephen King. I’m currently 57% of the way through, and I think the book is due in 2-3 days 😂🙈 I’m going to do my best. I’d really love to have this book done before the end of this year so it can’t haunt me (literally and figuratively) any further. .
.
What’s one book that you are hoping to finish before the end of the year? Another one I have on my list is War and Peace. Apparently I’m trying to suffocate myself in thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiicccccckkk books 🙈

"I want to write a novel about Silence," he said; "the things people don't say."
.
I think I'm back from my hiatus. Haven't really felt that inspired lately, reading-wise and in general.

I can't say that this year has been a great reading year for me. Only handful of books I have truly loved and perhaps that's part of the reason for the lack of inspiration. Also partly because I have been way too tired most of the year.

But! I really want to get back to reading and Bookstagram.

So please help a girl out. Which classic or modern classic do you think I ABSOLUTELY must read next year? Hit me with your suggestions!

The most beautiful Shakespeare editions I own! Alas, with those laser-cut illustrations they are also the most delicate, so I must love them from afar. 😂

Nothing gets me more in the mood for the holidays than Charles Dickens' Christmas writings. I think everyone knows the premise of A Christmas Carol, but not a lot of people have actually read it. I'm excited to get to it this month.

End of year thoughts ✨

Hello!👋😄 So I finally read this gorgeous lithuanian edition of Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë.
While the book tends to be read as a romance, I think that shouldn't be the case. Sure, romance is one of major plot points, but in my opinion the story really is about Jane - her life, character growth, staying true to herself. Throughout all that happens she stays true to her morals and makes the hard choices knowing that they're right. But the best part about her is that she strives for independence, not for marriage and I think it's not only incredible for a 19th century viewpoint but for a modern day as well.
The book is also written just beautifully, so the fact that it reads a bit slow at times is no problem. If you haven't read it yet, I truly recommend it.

Or if you have already read it, what is your opinion on the book?

QOTD: Do you decorate your shelves for the holidays?
.
I love to add a little holiday cheer to my shelves by displaying books and some small decorations! The month feels like it's already going by so quickly! Christmas will be here before we know it! (That's a lot of exclamation points, but it's exactly how I'm feeling. Lol)
.
I'm off to help my kindergartener with a presentation he's doing and then I'll be joining the class as the walk around town to give away the cookies they made to spread holiday cheer.

“Orlando naturally loved solitary places, vast views, and to feel himself for ever and ever and ever alone.” Virginia Woolf / Orlando
-
-
When I get in a reading slump, I read Virginia Woolf because she writes perfect sentences. Orlando is the story of a poet who transforms one day into a woman and lives for centuries romping around with famous literary figures. It is said to be based on Virginia Woolf’s longtime lover Vita-Sackville West and her own aristocratic life and history. Satirical, brilliant, lethally well-written (duh), I highly recommend this one if you’re a fan of Woolf or not.
