LISTEN TO TREES WITH LONG MEMORIES There is a certain wisdom held by beings who have lived on this planet for long periods of time: they have felt immense changes and have experienced a world quite different than the one in which we currently live. The Bristlecone Pine, Pinus longaeva, is the longest living tree species on the planet, some individuals living for more than 5,000 years in the high mountains of the western United States. It can be so easy to accept the modern way the world looks, feels, and acts, though there have been other realities, other ways of being and living on the planet. History offers important lessons, and we must not forget to listen to the tellers of the past to consider a different future. This piece is from a new series on Climate Change.
