Awesome last weekend with this beast @herveviens and our new little friend. Incredible place, endurance and powerful climbing, perfect weither... What else?.... Some more red pointing maybe 😅. Good time.
Big day today with @ad3m_j3ckson trying Scallop, E7/6b at Armathwaite. Lots of trust needed on some shallow pockets and slopey edges. 😅🏞 ▪ Definitely needed the big stack of pads below because we both got some big air! Such fun. 😂 ▪ Did enjoy teetering up a slab today, makes a good change to the steep overhangs!👌 ▪ Cheers for the pic @ad3m_j3ckson
Can't stop thinking about the sunny season...don't get to climb that much during ice age😂 Thankfully it's almost over🤙🏼🧗🏼
Wicked Wanda, yesterday we walked up to her, said hello, and got to know her.
From afar, this climb dominates the view of Planter's Valley. Each time I see it, it violates my sense of well-being, I feel small and vulnerable in its presence.
From the base the climbing looked straightforward. On lead it it was less straightforward. Finding protection proved difficult.
There was a 3-9cm thick layer of brittle ice from top to bottom. This ice layer easily broke away, even while kicking steps. Steeper sections were aerated and had many areas of 1-2" eggshell over snow or air pockets. There was some difficulty in getting good placements. Non-vertical surfaces held 3-5cm of snow.
