When it comes to energy conservation and movement efficiency for climbing straight arms are essential ๐Ÿค” When you hang on straight arms your body weight is resting on your skeletal structure, ligaments and tendons. When you hang on bent arms your muscles are forced to take the load and this burns a lot of energy๐Ÿ’ช. This is why hanging on straight arms is also know as hanging smart ๐Ÿ‘Œ So try to climb on straight arms as far as possible and you will go further for longer. Guaranteed! Here's an exercise to improve this skill. Choose an easy boulder or route. Imagine your arms are poles and you cannot bend them at all. Now attempt to climb to the top without the slightest bend in the arms. Watch how this changes your body movement and technique. Practise this until you've got it dialled. Remember keep those arms straight! See you at the top! โ˜๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‰

Today's climbing tip is the dropknee. You may recall Frogstyle or Frogging ๐Ÿธ which brings the hips close to the wall in the frontal position. Dropknee moves the hips close to the wall in the side-on, perpindicular position. This is the mark of the maestro. The dropknee technique shifts the centre of mass closer to the wall and over the feet. It also enables torque between points of contact to create a stable base of support. The dropknee gives further mechanical advantage in terms of reach ๐Ÿ™‹ Experiment with dropping that knee. Go slow to prevent injury. Over time you will develop the flexibility to deepen the drop and increase your movement ability. So remember to drop that knee and I'll see you at the top! โ˜๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‰
