#WordPressWednesday and invitation to come geek with me.
Do you have a Child theme? What on earth is a Child theme you ask. Good question. And let’s see why you need one.
In WordPress, you have your content, and you have a “suit” you put on to make it look the way you like. The suit is called a theme. But all themes aren’t the same. Some allow you to customise them. Sometimes a little (via some options in your Dashboard), sometimes A LOT. That’s what happens when themes like Genesis or Divi or Headway. They allow to have a super well thought base and then your designer or yourself can create something totally personal looking on top of that.
The problem is, if you modify directly the theme, when there’s an update, it has chances to erase all your modifications.
So always keep your “parent” original theme safe so it can be updated and your custom Child theme separate and “active” in your Dashboard.
Don’t be tempted to delete the parent theme, it has to stay on your server (you’ll see it in your dashboard as well). Happy updates to you all, hope you’re enjoying these little nuggets of #WordPresstips
