On this day in 2011, a motorbike trip up the stunning coastal road from Hoi An to Hue in Vietnam.
With jungles and mountains on one side and pristine beaches and azure ocean on the other, this strip of coastline must be one of the most spectacular roads anywhere in the world as it meanders through quiet fishing villages between the former imperial capital of Hue, the major port of Danang and the old town of Hoi An. Not long after I had completed it, was to be visited by the Top Gear team in one of their specials.
It's hard to believe it in an area so beautiful, but the area was once close to the front line in the Vietnam War - and the concrete ruins of bunkers and outposts that dot the road are testament to a conflict that in the grand scheme of things wasn't too long ago.
Vietnam was my favourite of the six South East Asian countries I was to visit on my trip - spectacular scenery, proud & fascinating culture, great food and low prices. One to return to.
