Summer = Tiki Season, right? I was @b2harlem not too long back and they had this really interesting take on the classic Mai Tai – with two kinds of rum, lime, orgeat, OJ, peychaud’s bitters, and a blue tea (made from butterfly pea flower extract. While the ingredients were semi-traditional, the presentation is what really caught my attention and got me excited / inspired.
With many bar programs turning their focus to simpler cocktails in terms of the number of ingredients in the mix, that does not mean that the presentation has to be traditional and simple as well. This version definitely got my creative juices flowing! Cheers. Happy Monday !

Dion Donnelly graduated the Dublin Bar Academy in 2017. Now he is a Bartender at The Stella Theatre and Stella Cocktail Club one of the coolest and avant-garde spots in Dublin’s flourishing bar scene. This is the El Presidente, I've been exploring more rum drinks and this was pretty damn good. I think if I made it again I'd go with a gold rum over a white, but other than that it's pretty amazing. It's nice and light and crisp, I really enjoyed it. I have always kind of held off on rum drinks because I thought they were much sweeter but this is solid proof that this is not always the case.
2 oz Bacardi Rum
3/4 oz Cinzano Dry Vermouth
3/4 Orange Curacao
Dash of Grenadine
Stir and strain then garnish with an orange twist and a luxardo maraschino cherry.
