"What we are doing to the forests of the world is but a mirror reflection of what we are doing to ourselves and to one another." - Chris Maser, Forest Primeval: The Natural History of an Ancient Forest
While hiking the Ciudad Pérdida trek in #Colombia last month, we had the opportunity to meet and talk with an elder representative of the #Cogi clan. As we listened to him speak about the simple and peaceful way his people live, we bowed our heads in acknowledgement of how far away from that our Western societies have drifted. Anxiously, we asked what they thought about us wandering around their land and he told us that for them meeting us was an opportunity to spread the message: respect nature and cherish the very valuable resources offered to you, don't abuse what you have, instead, learn to appreciate it for the treasure that it is. He asked us to take that message back with us, as we leave cleansed back to our world.
