One year ago today, Coug Nation was forever changed. Our quarterback Tyler Hilinski took his own life, and we’ve spent the past 365 days trying to make sense of why a kid who seemingly had everything to live for felt he couldn’t go on. We’ll never have all of the answers, but I can tell you we have hope … @hilinskishope. -
Because of the Hilinski Family’s courage, strength and drive to help others, information has been shared, conversations started, protocols changed, the stigma of mental illness is that much less and lives have been saved all in Tyler’s name.
Mental illness makes you think you’re not good enough. It tricks you into believing you’re alone or you’re a burden. The happiest of moments can be stolen just like that. Some days it takes every ounce of energy to get out of bed. Some days you win, while other days it wins. We’ve seen that firsthand as Cougs, and the 3 flags, towels, shirts and wristbands are physical reminders that mental illness and suicide touches us all, but that there is hope. -
