So, in July I gave my guineas, Pitch & Midnight to a "friend" for temporary safe-keeping, as we were supposed to move in together & I'd get them back. Shit hit the fan fast, & when I got my boys back, they were in DEPLORABLE conditions. I got them back in worse shape than when they left.
As you can see by the video, their cage was horribly filthy & they had no food or water, but that was only part of it. Their wire that held the water bottle on was in the cage, covered in filth, & the bottle was bone dry. The dog pee pads underneath the blanket were SOAKED & stained.... they were so hungry they started to eat them (they're not meant to be eaten!) I got none of the things they were sent with back other than the cage, empty water bottle & food bowl. None of their food, bedding, play pens, etc. But the worst part... My guineas have always been fearful because of their rough past & they weren't socialized young enough. But when they came home, they were both huddled in their igloo, scared shitless. Once I'd put them in my room, it took them hours to come out. They took food tentatively, afraid it wouldn't stay. & they still run when I enter the room, something they never did before.
I'm not directly bashing the person who did this; however, I'm using this story as a warning; be careful who you trust, especially when it comes to animals. I made a mistake, but THEY had to pay for this person's neglect. Now I have to spend the rest of their lives making this up to them.
Don't worry; they now are in my room which is peaceful & quiet, & half of my room will be a dedicated run just for them, so they can be let out to explore & play.
