Homestead Scavenger hunt- Thing that I am Most Proud of!
HERE WE ARE DOING IT! LIVING IT! EXEMPLIFYING THIS HOMESTEAD LIFESTYLE WE BELIEVE IN! I am SO freaking proud of us.
5 years ago we lived a comfortable Suburban life. We transitioned to homesteading with our oldest 3 kids grown into adulthood who come back and visit or occasionally help on a project. It's in those projects, that have significance in my daily tasks, that I see their handprints on my days. Chicken pens made by my oldest sons, Jimmy & Austin, and Jim. Electric wiring in my barn completed by a neighbor, Jim and Austin.
Jim works so hard to provide for us. His long commute makes our country life possible and his constant push to improve supports this homestead on his income alone. He works all week only to have trees to cut, wood to split or pens to build on the weekend. I am so fortunate to have him and he makes me proud daily.
Adrienne & Tommy have learned to observe our animals, care for their nutritional and emotional needs but also know when we say goodbye. They can split & stack firewood, prepare for inclement weather and work cooperatively. Super Powers at ages 10 & 11!
I can hatch, raise, nurture, butcher and prepare a chicken for dinner. AND a Turkey! Still haven't butchered a duck yet.
I can raise, breed, vaccinate, and milk a goat.
I plant, raise, harvest and can vegetables for my family.
I can shop for & drive a tractor. I can replace a hydraulic line, run the backhoe and learn from my mistakes.
I can run conduit, pull wires, run a saw, use power equipment, shoot a gun, hit a target and eventually learn to hunt.
I can make soaps, lotions, deodorant and body products free from chemicals.
I can cry from frustration and heartache as we learn as we go. I can learn from sun up to sun down and still not know everything that I need to.
