Not what I expected. I was hoping to get the color in the clouds, but the tree absorbed all the light.

We hiked the Pinnacles Trail to see the volcanic pumice spires rising from a steep canyon.
I wanted to return during sunrise or sunset, but we weren’t able. Next time... #hiking #hike #trail #trails #pinnaclestrail #pinnacles #volcanic #pumice #spires #crater #caldera #craterlake #craterlakenationalpark #craterlakenps #craterlakenp #dayhike #dayhikes #trailiac

#legotravelers Monika & Brian went on a road trip down to Oregon to visit #craterlake. Monika got suuuuper sick but still made it on a few pretty hikes. The #wildflower groce hike was their favorite. There was a booming #butterfly population this year and everywhere they went there were pretty little butterflies.

It’s not every day that they close part of the roads in Crater Lake NP to motor vehicles, so we decided to take advantage of the rarity ^_^

The word that kept coming to mind when circling Crater Lake was “cerulean”. Also, my favorite @crayola crayon. #themoreyouknow #craterlakenps

Mt Scott is the only place you can see Crater Lake Rim to Rim, so worth the climb to this tallest peak(8993 ft elevation) in Crater Lake National Park! 😊 .

The perfect road trip from Seattle. Crater lake is the deepest blue shade of water I have ever seen in a water body. Bonus photo of the lake in winters wherein volcanic heat keeps the water liquid despite sub zero temperatures.

“We are all at risk of something. Of ending up exactly where we began, of failing to imagine and find and know and actualize who we could be. We all need to jump from here to there. The only difference among us is the distance of the leap. What’s important is that you make the leap. Jump high and hard with intention and heart. Pay no mind to the vision that the committee made up. You get to make your life.”
Thank you, @cherylstrayed

This is your Monday morning reminder that your life is YOUR LIFE. You can make the rules. You can design it to look exactly how you want it to. If you’re happy with how it looks - KEEP DOIN’ DAT. And if you’re not happy with the way it looks, well, it might be time to make some leaps... 🤙🏼 #FullSend

Crater Lake National Park has been nothing short of amazing. I made many new friends and learned so much! I learned about folklore, the geological make up, native tribes, history, quirks, weather patterns, biodiversity and ecosystems within the park. On our final day the skies finally cleared up and we were able to witness the depth and beauty of the lakes blue waters. The views were stunning even through the smoke and haze of nearby wild fires.

Speaking of fires, shout out to the fire fighters / Rangers visiting from Padre Island National Seashore, Corpus Christi @trickyluv ! They were so kind and hospitable they truly made my experience unforgettable! They taught me so much in the 2 days we had met and even took me to a bonfire party out in the woods at the NPS park rangers housing quarters where I learned even more from botanist @pine.sap
Thank you National Park Service Employees for educating and protecting us as well as preserving our land! .

After days of smoke from wildfires blowing in from California and Canada we finally got to witness this beauty! Crater lake is a pristine sapphire blue 💙 It was formed after a 12000 ft volcano called Mount Mazama collapsed 7,700 years ago. It is currently the deepest lake in the US! P.S. - can you tell that blue is my favorite color? 😅 #views #craterlakenps #craterlakenationalpark #craterlake #oregon #nationalparkservice #nps #pct #travelgram #lakeview #magic #naturephotography #naturelovers #oregonexplored #cascademountains

The views from the drive around Crater Lake are truly spectacular with snow capped mountains like this in the distance and the rocky volcanic landscape we couldn't decide if Crater Lake or the distant views were the true stars of this National Park!

Wizard Island is one of two islands found in Crater Lake. A volcanic cylinder cone which reaches 6933 feet above sea level and 755 feet above the surface of Crater Lake. It has its own volcanic crater 500 feet wide and 100 feet deep named Witches Cauldron!

Crater Lake

Crater lake, which sits on top of a collapsed volcano and is the deepest lake in the U.S. has a cool origin story. “The spirits of the Earth and sky often came and talked with the people. Llao was the spirit of the Below-World who lived beneath Lao-Yaina (today known as Mount Mazama). Skell was the spirit of the Above-World. Llao often came up and stood on top of Lao-Yaina, and his head would touch the stars near the home of Skell. There was no lake then, just a hole through which Llao passed to see the outside world. One day, Llao saw Loha, daughter of the Klamath Indian chief, and fell in love with her beauty. She rejected him because he was ugly and was from the Below-World. He got angry and swore that he would take revenge on her people. He tried to destroy the people with the curse of fire. The Klamath Indian chief sought help from Skell.

Skell descended from the sky to the top of Mount Shasta. Skell and Llao were thundering and trembling the Earth, hurling red hot rocks back and forth to each other (from Mount Shasta to Mount Mazama), causing great landslides. A terrible darkness spread over the area for days. All spirits of Earth and sky took part in this battle, creating intense fear among the people. Attempting to calm the ferocious volcano gods and to make up for the sins of the tribe, two medicine men offered to sacrifice themselves and jumped into the pit of Below-World. Impressed by their heroic sacrifice, Skell fought even harder. He finally defeated Llao, driving Llao deep down into the Below-World. He collapsed the top of Mount Mazama to imprison Llao forever beneath the world. Skell wanted peace and tranquility to cover up this dark pit, so he filled it with the beautiful blue water.” Another checkbox filled on the bucket list. #mountains #craterlakenps #visitcalifornia #lakes #nature #trees #roadtrip #saturday #weekend #weekendgetaway #bluesky #water
