Sunday is food prep day. As I start to cook the evenings meal, I also tend to start prepping for the start of a new week too. Having food prepped is huge. It is the number one reason we don't eat a ton of crap in our house. 1-2 days a week, I spend approximately 1 hour prepping a shit ton of food so we can grab and go as we please. Not only does it save hours of work throughout the week (seriously!!), it saves us from from making bad choices at and between every meal.

Here’s an example of one food prep session that took exactly 1 hour and 8 minutes start to finish. Washed and cut veggies, cooked quinoa, brown rice & lentils, blanched broccoli, marinated and baked tempeh, lemon tahini dressing (no oil or salt), sliced zucchini, roasted sweet potatoes (no oil or salt), berries with mint. Now we have ingredients for meals for the next 3-5 days. Salads, school snacks, the lentils can be added to salads, mashed for "re fried beans" on taco night, mixed with tomato sauce and zucchini for a quick brown rice pasta dinner. I cut the sweet potatoes two ways so we can use them in salads, curries and sushirito rolls. Brown rice can be added to salads, warmed as a side dish, added to soup or reheated with broccoli and zucchini with a little tahini sauce poured over. Endless possibilities. Endless time saved. Also as I don't cook with oil or salt, there's zero food waste, everyone can eat it, even the dog and when produce starts looking like it's on its last legs, it's smoothie time!!!

Something I love about the #IIN program is the concept of “crowding out”. Instead of just trying to avoid certain foods, crowding out involves adding more healthy foods into your daily diet. The theory is that these healthy foods end up crowding out the less desirable foods.
Last week over the holiday break I definitely enjoyed myself and indulged in more foods/drinks that I don’t typically consume on a a regular basis. Am beating myself up about it? No. Am I starving or depriving myself this week? No. I’m just making sure I add in as many colorful vegetables and as many nutrient-dense foods as I can! Oh and lotssss of water.
This is the “Greek salad” I threw together earlier this week with leftover ingredients... I had everything already- just had to buy more feta.
Cucumber, red and white onion, garlic, kalamata olives, hot pepper rings, tomatoes, feta cheese, salt pepper and dresser with olive oil.

It can sometimes be tricky to get back into a healthy eating routine after a few indulgent meals so my advice is to focus on adding in more veggies and plant based meals rather than focusing on cutting things out 👍
.
When you add the good for you foods in, you naturally crowd out the foods that don’t provide energy and don’t make you feel your best 😉
.
One thing I always keep on hand is homemade hummus! Unfortunately most store bought versions contain added oils (almost always the damaging kinds like canola 👎) and I like to be in control of what I’m putting into my body which means minimal ingredients from whole plant sources 🙌
.
Hummus is also a great substitute for salad dressing, an excellent source of protein and fiber and it sure does make you veggies taste more delicious 😋
.
Here’s what I threw in my @vitamix to whip up this batch of beet hummus 👇
.
🥄 a cup of locally grown garbanzo beans from @alvarezorganicfarms that I soaked in filtered water for a day before I cooked them (if you’re short on time you can used canned beans 👌)
🥄 a couple of steamed beets, I sometimes use pickled or a scoop of beet powder from @super_beets 💯 .
🥄 a tablespoon of tahini .
🥄 garlic salt or fresh garlic .
🥄 pink salt to taste .
🥄 half a lemon 🍋 .
You don’t have to add beets, you can add a different veggie or just keep it plain, it’s up to you and your taste buds 😆

Una idea fácil y práctica si querés empezar a desayunar cosas distintas que te den energía sostenible ✨ ☑️ Versión 1: - 1 taza de leche vegetal (con leche de coco queda genial) - 4 o 5 cdas de avena idealmente tradicional no instantánea (idealmente) - 1/4 cdta de canela - endulzante natural a gusto Ej: mascabo

Tratá de evitar la miel en cocciones porque libera ciertos tóxicos. De nuevo, idealmente. ☑️ Versión 2:

Reemplazar la taza de leche vegetal por 1 taza de agua y 1/2 manzana rallada 🍎

Arriba le ponés lo que te pinte: frutos secos, banana, arándanos, semillas etc.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE THAT GROSS, THOUGH.
There is a way to engage your glutton—to splurge, without feeling guilty or suffering from the malaise of overeating—belly aches, fatigue, or gluten-fever as it’s been called:
😋 1️⃣- Work The Preemptive Cheat.
Eat a little bit of something when the craving hits so you don’t eat a bunch of it later. Respect the rubberband effect, here. 😋 2️⃣-Eat Til 80% Full—a.k.a. Until You Are Satisfied.
Known as #harahachibu in Japanese culture, this tasty trick allows your taste buds to delight in the awesome foods around without stuffing yourself like the apocalypse is coming. 😋 3️⃣-Eat some beta-carotene with your meal (think carrots and sweet potatoes). By consuming natural sugars (hopefully not doused in a bunch of yucky oils and high-fructose honey) earlier in the meal, you fill up on Pro Vitamin A and have less of a craving for sugars later. This way, when dessert is served, you might want a little less.
The more traditional approach to Thanksgiving in the diet community has been to limit your intake of calories, especially from the denser, sweeter foods on the long table’s spread.
I think we should engage the glutton every once in a while.
We only have so much willpower, and by the end of the day, it is low.
Plus, you should enjoy yourself and be in the moment with your friends and family! Presence and gratitude go 🤚 in 🤚! As an overarching reminder: eat what you want. Just because a dish is served does not mean you need to eat it. Tap into what you want and explore that. This is what #confidenteating is all about.

Detox salad for the win – seriously so good I could eat it every day! 1 handful of spinach (reduces inflammation and major source of Vitamin K & A), cucumber, quinoa (which is a complete, plant-based protein), asparagus (full of iron and folate), beets (improve blood pressure & mental function), olives, and hemp seeds (full of Omega-3s, magnesium & thiamin). I dressed it in 1/2 tbsp of olive oil, 1/2 tbsp ACV, 1 tsp coconut aminos, 1/4 of a lime juiced, 1 tsp minced garlic, salt and pepper. SO. GOOD. GO. EAT. 🤩.

I’ve never been one to meal prep, but the weeks have been flying by and I have to say this feels good. Not sure what I’ll make of it all, but pictured is: baked barbecue tempeh (while I’m eating animal protein again, still trying to add fermented foods into my diet for my skin!), tomato quinoa, roasted carrots, roasted sweet potatoes, sautéed veggies (onion, zucchini, mushrooms and garlic), pre-washed spinach, and my cute little fruit bowl. Reintroducing eggs into my diet 🤞🏻 After being predominantly plant based this year, my body is super low in Vitamin D and eggs are a great source of natural Vitamin D (and iron, protein and so much more!). It must be close to 6 weeks now gluten free and I cannot believe how I don’t miss it, not bread, not pasta, I just crave my whole healthy food, all the time! Then this happened tonight, a gluten free wrap, and it was good and was a total replacement for the old gluten wraps we frequented. When I quit things, no matter what it is, a job, relationship, food, I quit, completely, it’s onward and upward and onto the next thing. Quitting gluten has been the same, no replacements with fake stuff, just crowd it out with all the good stuff. Just like when we go through a loss or a breakup, we fill up our time and space with all the things and people we love to help us move on and heal. Quitting certain food, same thing...crowd it out and replace it with beautiful, healthy, whole food that makes us feel amazing!!
Last nights divine dine became tonight’s sloppy joe like filling (with some added love) for these super wraps, gluten free and really good...the closest thing to gluten in awhile and I must say, all the good stuff in the middle, that’s the good stuff. Carrot cake sin gluten

Lleva:
50grs de harina de arroz
50grs de harina de almendras
100 grs de maicena
1 cucharada de pólvora para hormear
3 huevos
175grs de azúcar orgánica o mascabo
125ml de aceite de maíz o de coco
2 zanahorias rayadas
1 manzana rayada
Jugo de 1/2 naranja
La cáscara rayada de 1 naranja
1 cucharadita de canela

Mezclas todos los secos.
Por otro lado batís los huevos con el aceite, le incorporas los secos
Por último las zanahorias, la manzana rayada y el jugo de naranja.
Cocinas 45min a horno 180 grados.
🖐🏾 Atenti a las que vinieron al taller de leches vegetales, pueden usar el bagazo de la leche de almendras para esta preparación.

Meal Prep Sunday has been a cracking success today.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I just smashed it all out this morning, with some other items not in the picture.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• Lemon Coconut Balls (sugar free)
• Peanut Butter + Cacao Balls
• Spinach Pancakes courtesy of the recipe from @gkstories
• Roasted vegetables to go into salads for the week
• Roasted broccoli with ginger + chilli oil
• Leek, Kale + Tomato Frittata
• Halloumi + Zucchini Fritters (not in shot)
• Matcha Balls (not in shot)

The bliss balls will last a few weeks in the freezer.

The Frittata will be a lunch / snack / quick dinner option.

The Spinach Pancakes will be breakfast or snack. For breakfast I’ll serve with coconut yoghurt + berries.

My food is vegetarian focused this week, unintentionally.

I have some lamb to cook up later, with a cucumber salad + minted yoghurt dressing so that will also become leftovers.

This will have me covered as a good foundation for salads + snacks for the week ahead.

Las pasas de uva están entre $10 y $20 los 100g, o sea súper accesibles 😊 Y si el bolsillo te lo permite, le podés agregar un par de nueces. Un par aunque sea ❤️ Y si eso te resulta un montoooón, al menos te propongo sumar una fruta a tu desayuno de siempre 🍏No tienen que ser arándanos ni frambuesas patagónicas.. la que tengas o puedas 😄

Porque a la hora de cambiar hábitos no se trata de eliminar para sieeeempre ese cañoncito de dulce de leche que todos amamos 😍🤤 Sino que se trata de INCORPORAR cosas nuevas y que te aporten. Un pasito a la vez 👣

Here’s a little sunshine for all these cloudy/foggy skies we have had recently. Thanks for the perfect post @mylittleomies and @johnlennonofficial ! It’s not often that we go without sunlight in SoCal but the fog has ruled our world for a few days.✌️❤️😊🌎 I really like the fog, but I’ve noticed what an impact the lack of sun has had on my emotional state. Have you ever tried to crowd out your cereal?

My kids love cereal. Specifically granola. And while it might be found in the health food section, even low sugar granola contains a LOT of sugar. That's why it's so tasty 😉😂 So this is what we do now. They get a couple of spoonfuls of the 'healthy' granola. Add seeds - we used sunflower, pumpkin, and chia this morning. Berries (we keep a bag of frozen mixed berries in the freeezer), nuts, and milk and/yoghurt or choice. We use both - coconut yoghurt is particularly yummy! 🍒🌻🍓🌰🍏🥥 There you have it - the less healthy ingredients are 'crowded out' in favour of a high quantity of the better for you options 😉

My opinion - it tastes heaps better this way anyway. And the kids love it 💙
