Now that we’ve been in our house for almost two years, I’ve had a chance to reflect and look back at some of the things I would change if we could build all over again. Don’t get me wrong, I love our home, but as you get older, you realize what is functional for your family and what isn’t. So here are some of the things I would change: 1) I would have wood flooring throughout the entire downstairs, including the kitchen. Truth be told, we opted for tile because prices add up quickly when you’re building. 2) I’d also opt for a floor plan with a larger island. My kids love to be in the kitchen with me while I cook, and as you can tell, it’s a tight squeeze to fit three barstools at the island. 3) lastly, I would’ve opted for a floor plan that feels more open. Although our kitchen and living room are more open concept, the dining room is separated by a wall. These are all things you learn are important to you as you start living your daily life in the floor plan you picked. I hope this was helpful for any of you looking to build at some point!
