This one excites me! Grubwear is a family owned business that creates custom branded goods and also has a shop at the front selling their custom designed goods. Not only are they actively involved in the skating and snowboarding community, they value giving back to all aspects of communuty creating a soup kitchen that runs the last sunday of every month in the DTES. .
This business is one that highly values building community and connecting community. They have also hired an individual with a developmental disability who has been a part of their team and given valuable roles for over a year. .
Despite the hard work and dedication of this business, someone tried to ruin this shop. Late one Sat night someone smashed a hole in the front window with a hammer and then threw in two smoke bombs and two cans of bear spray. The assumption is that someone in Van feels they are entitled to the rights of the 'East Van' symbol. You know, the one that is everywhere and the city actually owns? Due to this vandalism they are no longer printing this image. You dont want the bad guy to win, but it is hard to be a successful business in Vancouver and to have all of your products destroyed is not worth it. .
So! If you need something printed, or some cool designs, come check out Grubwear at 617 Kingsway .
