It’s been one year since we lost my Gram. If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know this story. But if you are new, this is the story of my beginning, a lot of which I owe to her. 💕
I started Oak&Feather in 2017, and a few of you know the story behind my shop name. It's not because we build with oak or paint with feathers. It's because my grandma thought it was the name of a restaurant.
I was visiting my grandparents a few years ago to celebrate Father's Day and my grandma wanted to make sure we had reservations for lunch. "Jim!" She yelled. "Did you call the Oak&Feather? Jim!?" My grandpa didn't reply, and I thought maybe his hearing aid was turned down so he didn't hear her. "The what? What did you say Wilma?" She replied "The Oak&Feather! Did you call them?!" With a puzzled look on his face he finally said, "Do you mean the Oarsmen?" "Oh yes, that's what I said isn't it?" She laughed.
I remember thinking wow, that sounded like a great place, I wish it was really called that! So a few years later when I opened up shop, I named it for her. For her spirit and humour, her confidence and imagination. She was so excited when I told her I named it Oak&Feather because of her. And now, I continue in her memory. I know she was so proud of me, and I miss her every day. Love you gram. #inlovingmemory
