Ok, so non-dairy milks are not technically “milks” because almonds don’t have boobies and all...but I do like a "milk" replacements for smoothies, chia puddings etc… and for a while now, store bought nut milks are a big no no for me as they are loaded with 💩 like #XanthamGum that alters your gut bacteria, Soy Lecitin (not something you want in your body) or #Carrageenan, which is indigestible and is a known #carcinogen. Stay away from that guy. Anyhoo, recently I was experimenting with making #oat milk and I have to say it’s kinda awesome. It’s faster to make then nut milks, as it does not require as much soaking, and oats are not as expensive! Detailed recipe in the bio link, but in a nutshell, soak oats, rinse, blend, strain few times and #voila!

Salted Caramel overload today! These Nanaimo bars have a chocolate, coconut and biscuit base, a layer of salted caramel buttercream icing and topped with a layer of chocolate and a sprinkling of salt! 🤤🤤 Now try saying that 3 times 😂

At the end of the term there are so many conferences, I hardly see any day light when I am finally able to leave school. It’s also hard to have enough light to take proper pictures 😕. Can health food make you sick? Yes!! On the right you’ll see some pretty standard “health food” products which are staples in my kitchen. Almond flour, pastured organic eggs and almond milk without carrageen. Healthy right? No gluten, real food! But I kept feeling sick with an upset stomach daily and just couldn’t put my finger on it! After some research and investigation I found that while I thought choosing a plant based milk minus the carrageen (a thickener that’s a polysaccharide and isn’t digestible) was a good choice, unfortunately it has other thickening agents in it which are just as harmful...GUMS! Gluten-free, “health food” can be loaded with gums and they can be immensely harmful to the intestines! They were making me sick. Xanthan gum, locust bean gum and guar gum even in small does can cause chronic bloating, diarrhea, gas, and arthritic symptoms...most people cannot tolerate gums. So now trying a plant based, organic milk without any gums and feel amazing! Forager brand on the left is what I’ve been using and it’s so much better...#healthyfood #glutenfree #dairyfree #nogums

*Dairy free peanut butter fudge/sauce*
Nothing I like better than a quick, one-bowl peanut buttery snack. This is melt-in-your-mouth heaven! Replace the honey with maple syrup and it's vegan too!

Melt 60 ml coconut oil. Stir in 90 ml peanut butter (I used crunchy peanut butter which tastes even better!), 30 ml honey and 1-2 tbsp cacao powder. Add a pinch of salt and you are done! Pop in the fridge and wait for it to cool into yummy fudge, or eat it as is (with a spoon, no sharing!) it makes a delicious sauce.

I'm obsessed with these coconut flakes from Pick n Pay so I added a handful. 👌👌

Well I've made the official decision to end my whole30 early. I went back and forth A LOT about it but it's what's best for me. Whole30 always teaches me a lot about food and the impact certain things have on my body. I'll always be mostly Whole30 no matter what but I really want to focus on weight loss right now. I know that's not what whole30 is about so I feel it's best to call it quits. My meals will still mostly be whole30 but I'll be measuring and weighing and working on these annoying 30 lbs I wanna lose! Good luck to all you January Whole30ers!!!!!
