Ascension: The Food
I was hoping to order breakfast, even though it was a little after noon, but breakfast is only served until 11am. I have a soft spot for breakfast (carbs!) and have been spoiled by other coffee shops and cafes serving breakfast until 2 or 3 everyday.
I perused the lunch menu and landed on this ahi tuna sandwich. OMG, it was SO good! The tuna is seared, but still mostly raw. The combination of aioli, parmesan, and arugula perfectly complemented the tuna without overpowering it. The bread was light and airy. I can see this becoming a regular craving! It doesn't come with any sides (other than the pictured pickle slices), but I didn't miss them. FYI, many other sandwiches on the menu come with a choice of chips or a side salad.
When it was time to pay for my meal, the waiter brought out a handheld credit card machine; I had to select my tip with him standing over me (awkward!). After I signed, the screen showed that an error had occurred, but the waiter shrugged it off. We'll see if the charge goes through correctly!
To sum up my thoughts, the food and coffee were great, but the service was lacking and the small details need more attention. This could be a great spot, but it's not quite there yet.
