Home after performing renaissance dances with my enthusiast friends in the renaissance hall at Malmöhus castle for the annual christmas fair. A bit unraveled, and after this test run of my doublet in progress I've spotted some serious problems that I need to address. I also need to change the unsuitable trim on my gown and have after two years still not made any wings/rolls/sleeves (can't decide) for it.
BUT. And this is new for me: I am happy. I have made a doublet that was ok enough for a performance, and it's entirely handsewn with things from my stash and even though I ran out of time and I still am a very inexperienced costumer, I am proud. Would you believe it.
Picure 2-3 is all my layers (about 15-20 kg!), and I am pleased that most of the materials are second hand, including trim, freshwater pearls, jewellery and fur, and except for the half dinosaur doublet top fabric everything is natural fibres. Even the hair piece is made of a thrifted 60's natural hair piece and my daughter's thick plaid that I saved when she grew tired of long hair.
