Anyone who makes it seem like they have all the answers or that their life is perfect all the time is lying. Straight up tittle tattle, long nose, pants on fire lying.
This shouldn't be news to anybody. Surely we know by now that even though our Instagram feeds are bursting with flawlessly curated galleries of happy, beautiful people who never have a hard day, that isn't real life. And no one actually expects anyone else's life to be that shiny and immaculate.
Yet we still spend so much of our time and energy trying to make it seem like we're better than we are, or know more than we really do, or struggle less than we really do because somewhere along the way we got it in our heads that being our real self wasn't good enough. When in reality, if we all could see each other in our realness, we could give up the ruse and finally breathe a huge sigh of relief.
But in the post truth era, fake is the new real and perception is all that matters.
Seeking truth in a culture that no longer values it is merciless, thankless and exhausting. It's messy, but it's worth the fight.
Please don't ever give up on or belittle your truth in exchange for likes, followers, friends, or whatever other measure of value this fake world tells you is the only thing that really matters.
Exactly who you are is enough. Unaltered, unadulterated, raw, honest, real. In all your messy, chaotic, glory.
Your life doesn't have to be pretty all the time. There's beauty in the chaos and the struggle because guess what, you're still here. You're doing it. You're making it through, even if it's only one breath at a time.
I promise to always share my life as it is like this, with the darkness and the light. Joy and pain. Doubt and peace. Because it is never either/or. It is always AND.
