Introducing our latest Collection POISON INTO MEDICINE, a collaboration between Dillwyn Smith @dillwynsmith and Francesca Wezel.
This collection is called Poison into Medicine, a Buddhist term meaning that we can take suffering, hardships or trauma happening in our life and use it as stimulus to create something positive, thus changing Poison into Medicine.
These colours take inspiration from the The Nativity by Piero della Francesca circa 1475
During a visit to the Renaissance Masters at the National Gallery in 2018 with Dillwyn Smith, both were mesmerized by the beauty of it. Dillwyn has been observing this painting for more than 40 years. He knows it, feels it and breaths it.
Dillwyn and Francesca believe that colour touches us deeply, affects us and is always with us. The inspiration taken from the great Master stays within us, lays in our memory to be called on in the future. We build a lifetime relationship with particular paintings and the Nativity is one of this painting that once you see it , it just stays within you.
Dillwyn and Francesca feel that these colours are well balanced and reflect the calmness and strength of the Nativity.
Dillwyn and Francesca have developed a respect and friendship working on a project in 2014 where D found F because he needed a bespoke colour to use in creating the space and atmosphere for Morito Hackney Road Restaurant. In 2017 D displayed his art at Patrick Heide Gallery and wanted to frame his work with the colours inspired by some of his favourite early renaissance paintings. Francesca made the colours for this and the exhibition was a great success and from then on Poison into Medicine was in their mind. The title for D's exhibition at Patrick Heide’s was 'Teacher’s Pet', he called it this as proof that we can change 'Poison into Medicine' , D was groomed and abused by a teacher at school and found solace in the art room which was his sanctuary. His journey and his love of art and using colour has its roots right there.
