I'm getting the sense that the art community in Eugene is a bit reluctant to offer advise or mentorship to new emerging artists. I've reached out to several local artists about their experience with selling at the Saturday market and no one was willing to give up any helpful information. Maybe they see me as a competitor, maybe their experience is too personal to talk about? Not really sure.
The exact opposite was true when starting my own farm. Even though I was in direct competition with other farmers the feeling of comraderie was very reassuring. Everything from helpful advise, tricks of the trade and even tool sharing was given freely without discrimination.
Kind of feels like parting with one tribe and stepping into a new one and I don't speak the right language yet.
