The #matchbox MB542 casting #trashtruck was first released in the basic range in 2002 as MB57. It was during the early 2000s where I felt some of the generic designs (or Matchbox originals) were not the prettiest, but the play value went through the roof. The way this model was thought out was brilliant. I have 8 pictures if you scroll through. The first 2 are the front 3/4 view & rear 3/4 view. Picture 3 is a side view, with a tampo design that shows some of what can be done. You see, scrolling to picture 4 you notice that the orange arms slide back & forth, & the rear tips back. Picture 5 gets even more interesting. There is an internal bucket inside the rear section that can be pulled out. Picture 6 shows that this bucket has 2 slots on one end, that happen to be the perfect size for the 2 prongs on the front of the truck's arms. You can therefore roll the truck in & pick up the bucket as shown in picture 7. Finally picture 8 shows that these arms pivot all the way up to deposit the contents of the bucket into the main trash compartment of the model. As I said, this may not have been the prettiest of models, but I honestly feel that this is 1 of the best play value models they have ever made. The way this must have been thought out & the effort to get all this put together shows how clever toy designers can be. This model lasted for 3 years as a basic range model, then 2 additional years in 5-pack for a total of 5 different versions (not including variations). All that effort for 5 releases.
