Kodiak pumpkin flax waffles (followed directions on box) with a dollop of Greek yogurt and @erinbakers granola + a scrambled egg with sriracha sauce🔥

If you have limited time in the morning to make breakfast, I highly suggest making a batch of kodiak waffles and freezing them. I pop them in the toaster for 4 minutes and they are GOLDEN! 🙌🏽 this meal only took about 10 minutes💃🏼 happy Thursday!

Here's a personal story. Can you relate to gut symptoms holding you back on vacation? ⠀

Around 6 months into his healing journey post celiac diagnosis, my husband Trevor and I went on a vacation To New Zealand. He did fine for the first half but then he physically CRASHED. And crashed hard. He had recurrent INTENSE digestive symptoms that caused him to be in significant pain and incapacitated for hours at a time. It was so scary. We paid $400 for a visit to a doctor and he didn't know what was going on and couldn't help.⠀

I didn’t know what food to offer him or how to help as everything seemed to set him off. We were scared something else was wrong with him medically. How would he would he manage the 13 hour flight back home? We were sad about the missed opportunities we had while on vacation. He worried that he would be unable to meet the demands of his new job he was starting in a few weeks.⠀

He was really sick. We desperately wanted him to feel better and have control over his symptoms.⠀
When we asked for answers his doctor’s kept shrugging and saying…⠀

“I’m not sure what we can do, just don’t eat gluten”. ⠀
.⠀
We had to figure things out on our own.⠀
.⠀
This story has led me to be doing what I do today. Often I find that my clients need more advice than "just gluten free" to feel better.⠀

Fresh sourdough! Sourdough is an easy bread to begin with, because the sourdough starter (fermented foods!) helps you navigate some of the more challenging chemistry of breadmaking. I couldn’t even wait for the picture to cut off a slice.
When you make bread yourself, you cut out the preservatives, decrease the amount of sodium (which is surprisingly high in store bought bread) and start connecting with how foods are made. TRIPlLE WIN.

It’s 👏 Not 👏 Always 👏 About 👏Food.
I wrote a post with this title for @lane9project last week. (Lane9Project.org) Lane 9 is a community of active women in treatment/recovery for hypothalamic amenorrhea. There is a deep-rooted craving for control, maybe related to an eating disorder or the challenge of the recovery process, or both. Someone in our group saw someone on Instagram post about eliminating “common allergens” to help with symptoms that seem entirely unrelated to food. We had a great discussion around boundaries on social media, recognizing if someone else may also be struggling, and focusing in on *your* journey. But also, a great discussion about using a wider lens, as @marcird described on a recent Food Psych episode with @chr1styharrison .
If something feels “off”, or you have chronic IBS symptoms (as they were talking about on the episode), don’t be afraid to zoom out, or use a wider lens.
What symptoms do you feel?
What EMOTIONS do you feel?
What stressors May be a factor?
How’s your body image?
Why are you grasping for a sense of control?
This isn’t a complete list, of course, but if you’re like “ZOOM OUT TO WHERE?”, you could start with these questions.
If you start to hear a diet, or eating disorder voice, convince you that a quick change to your food intake will clear everything up, challenge that. Use a wider lens. .

Burrito thief!! What food do your kids steal from you?⠀

Studies show that when you serve your kids the same food you're eating, they are less likely to be picky eaters. And less likely to steal your food off your plate. (Okay that second part isn't research supported. 😉)⠀

A lot of little ones prefer their meals to be a deconstructed version of what you're having...cuz a bunch of different tastes and textures all mixed together can be overwhelming. That's okay! They don't need to eat an EXACT copy of what's on your plate to still get the benefit of eating the same foods you're eating.⠀

My sweet E is still at an age where she eats mostly everything, so I'm enjoying it while it lasts! I just had to laugh at her little belly button poking out here while she tried to eat this wrap that's bigger than her head 😁😍⠀

What does food freedom mean to you? ☾
To me it means being able to travel around the world and actually ENJOY the food I'm eating. Not counting calories or macros, but rather getting nourishment and satisfaction from what I eat. ☾
I know that for many of us we hear conflicting nutrition information all the time. Count macros, eat intuitively, don't eat gluten, only eat between certain hours of the day, etc. etc. ☾
When you drown out the noise, you can come back to your self, to your own body, and feed yourself with all the nourishment and enjoyment that comes from food. ☾
Tell me, what's one thing that's holding you back from total food freedom? And what's something you've learned that you wish others knew too?

If you want a chocolate bar then have a chocolate bar but please take these “protein bars” with a pinch of salt (not literally) 🤦🏻‍♀️. -

So yes although there may be 19g of protein in these bars, they are predominantly made up of Collagen protein i.e. doesn’t optimally stimulate muscle protein synthesis (muscle build up) 💪🏼 -

For a recovery fix post exercise base choices on whey protein sources e.g. a simple glass of milk 🥛 (will definitely cost a lot less too) 🙌🏻

Crockpots... not just for dinner! This Apple Cranberry Steel Cut Oat recipe made the house smell so good and the texture was 👌Anyone else have issues with steel cuts oats on the stove top sometimes??

Lightly coat slow cooker with non stick spray. Into the slow cooker add:
2 cups steel cut oats
6 cups water
2 cups milk of choice
1/4 cup pure maple
2-3tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt
1 small apple diced
1/2 cup dried cranberries
Give one gentle stir to combine then set the slow cooker to low and cook 5-8 hours depending on slow cooker.
Top with chopped nuts or nut butter.
Makes 6-8 servings. .
