Cruciferous Vegetables for Weight Loss ๐ŸŒŸ

cruciferous vegetables, which are a part of brassica genus of plants like broccoli, Brussel sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, are some of the leafy greens that are considered healthier and more beneficial for losing weight than other vegetables.

#Cauliflower: Slows down the process of digestion because of its high fibre content, creating a feeling of fullness, which automatically reduces your hunger pangs. Also It is an excellent source of anti-oxidants and is high in choline nutrient, which boosts metabolism.

#Cabbage: cabbage is also rich in anti-oxidants and many vitamins. A ยฝ cup serving of cooked cabbage can provide a little less than 50% Daily Value of vitamin C, 100% vitamin K and lesser amounts of potassium, manganese, B6, iron, calcium and magnesium.

#Broccoli: Broccoli is a powerful anti-oxidant, which helps in cholesterol reduction and is also good for heart and bone health & to manage our blood pressure levels. It is a low-calorie and low fat veggie, but at the same time, it is high in dietary fibre, which makes for a quite filling meal.

P.S. Limit consumption of these veggies if you have diagnosed with Hypothyroidism.

๐ŸŒฎIf you look at the graphic you will see that all things being equal and the person has no major health issues/diseases, they will lose fat by following the balanced diet approach not the clean eating approach. Of course a balanced diet should always be 80-90% nutritious foods but there is some wiggle room for 'fun foods' as long as calories are controlled ๐Ÿ™Œ

As a personal trainer, I deal with food anxiety from my clients all the time, when usually theyโ€™re getting too caught up in thinking about whatโ€™s a good food vs a bad food, how do I count calories, ect ect. 8 month transformation since i discovered bodybuilding. Sometimes i need to pinch myself when i look in the mirror.

As im about to go on my summer holiday to Spain, from the start I always had this date as a target in the back of my mind. Wondering whether I'd get that beach bod rocking in time for this beach trip.

Think I can safely say: mission accomplished.

Should you take supplements? If youโ€™re just starting out on your fitness journey, I would say, skip them. Focus on mastering your healthy habits first. Work on the major components that will make the most significant changes upfront, i.e., eating a diet of primarily real, whole (one-ingredient) foods, incorporate mindful eating, eat when youโ€™re hungry - stop when youโ€™re full, drink lots of water, move your body. Until living a healthy lifestyle becomes so effortless that itโ€™s part of who you are, donโ€™t concern yourself with the small details that barely move the dial. If your diet consists of mainly junk food, just because youโ€™re taking protein powder, doesnโ€™t mean youโ€™ll see progress. Once youโ€™ve established your healthy habits, then, if you wish, you can shift your focus to the minor details.

๐Ÿ“STAY FULL WHILE DIETING๐Ÿ“Okay, thereโ€™s definitely some hard and fast truth: youโ€™re not going to ever feel truly full while dieting. You should, however, feel satisfied at points throughout the day. Hereโ€™s a few tips that help me when the macros get low, and work hours get long. -
โœ… COFFEE: Caffeine acts as an appetite suppressant, and having a cup in the afternoon between meals can keep you less hungry until dinner. Just make sure youโ€™re not loading it with creamer, butter or sugar. -
โœ… VOLUME: I eat about 40-60g worth of carbs in veggies. One, when macros drop, itโ€™s hard to get micronutrients in. Two, I can eat an entire bag of salad mix for 5c, and Iโ€™m way more full compared to 1/3C of rice at 20-30g carbs. -
โœ… DRINK UP: Make sure to drink lots of water, all day long. Before your morning coffee, white monster or tea, drink some water. I drink about 1.5 gallons every day. That will help keep you full between meals, but itโ€™s also a no-brainer for your health. -
โœ… SNACK SMART: Keep snacks in your bag (tuna pouches, almond packs) and at your desk (protein bars, powders, oatmeal packets, popcorn) for when you want to munch. Just make sure snacks are portioned out so you donโ€™t derail your day/progress. โ˜บ๏ธ #dietstartsmonday #mondaymotivation

First off, you need to live by a rule. You need to live by this rule. Eat protein with EVERY meal. Every MEAL. If youโ€™re going to eat a waffle in a cafe, take some protein powder with you. Every meal youโ€™re eating, you have a form protein. Thatโ€™s a rule you want to live by.

You need to know how much you need. If you donโ€™t even know how much you need then how are you supposed to nail your protein goal? For every pound of bodyweight, eat one gram of protein. (for overweight people multiply your lean body mass with 1).

Cook it in bulk!! If you cook your protein sources in bulk you always have a protein form to eat!! Youโ€™re coming home late from work and donโ€™t feel like cooking up an entire meal? Donโ€™t bother, youโ€™ve already cooked most of it!!!

ALWAYS carry protein with you. ALWAYS, even though youโ€™re just going out for 20 minutes, odds are you run into a friend and off you go. Just always carry protein with you!

Supplement when necessary! If you really canโ€™t make your protein intake, just have some whey or a protein bar. Thereโ€™s nothing wrong with any of these things so just have it when you need it!

End the day with what you need!!! At the end of everyday, count how many grams youโ€™ve had, you realize youโ€™re coming up short? Good, just scramble something together to fit your protein needs!!!

placebo can work on anybody I guess.. . โ˜ƒ๏ธYour body is already equipped with everything it needs (a functioning liver, kidneys, skin...) to "detox" DAILY. โ€ผ๏ธThese over priced products and juices and pills do nothing more than severely restrict your calorie intake (so you lose weight very quickly... ๐Ÿ‘‰ Any weight loss caused by it will be water / glycogen / intestinal bulk / lower calories.

You know me, nothing against carbs or fats or anything particular.
Because for the biggest part nothing you eat is inherently evil and harmful or will turn you into a slob.

This doesnโ€™t mean I donโ€™t have personal preferences and snacks I like to eat more than others. High fat, low carb snacks are my favorite. But again, pure Johnny preferences. Nothing grandiose.

Because eating carbs, or fats, or any food group canโ€™t and wonโ€™t make you fat if it fits in your daily calorie budget. Poopie starts happening when you start going over your daily calorie intake day in and out.

Yes, calories define whether youโ€™re going to lose weight, stay the same or pack some. Nothing else. Literally. Unless you eat past noon. Then everything turns into fat. Even water.

j/k j/k. Donโ€™t take it seriously.
Here is a list of things that donโ€™t actually matter for fat loss:
- Eating late at night
- The number of meals you eat
- If you eat carbs
- If you eat fat
- If you eat clean
- If you drink Bulletproof Coffee
- Detox
- Wetting your bed

So what matters?
How many calories you eat and how much you move, roughly speaking.
So if you enjoy carbs, fats, the occasional drink, eating late at night, or having a bazillion meals per or one then by all means go for it. If it rocks your boat, then it sizzles my drizzle. No Biggie.

The weekends are typically the most difficult times to stick to a diet since youโ€™re likely hanging out with friends and going out where itโ€™s tougher to track macros.

While it might be easy to call it quits after a few bad days, when you look at the big picture, a few bad days is nothing compared to a week, several weeks, or even months of bad eating. If you had a bad weekend, look at it as a small step backwards and get back on track starting today before it spirals out of control. Otherwise, youโ€™ll look back on today and realize you really didnโ€™t do much damage at all and if you had just gotten back on track after the weekend, you would have been perfectly fine.

Where did my tan go?! ๐Ÿ˜’๐Ÿ˜’๐Ÿ˜’ Quite a few babes have asked me on my previous transformation posts about the time difference between photos. I've found it's often hard to use this to gauge genuine progress because bodies (mine anyway) fluctuate sooooooo much ๐Ÿ•ž๐Ÿ•–๐Ÿ•˜ BUTTTTTT I can safely say the 8 months between these two photos has been fairly linear for booty growth ๐Ÿ“ˆ๐Ÿ“ˆ๐Ÿ“ˆ
First pic I had just lost quite a bit of weight from being sick so I was the LEAST muscley I've been for a while
Second pic is me now!! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ Hopefully this helps anyone who's trying to build their booty, I still have a longgggg way to go but it's such a fun and rewarding journey!

Itโ€™s incredible how many people think that fruit makes them fat. Yeah...that apple is why youโ€™re gaining weight Karen, not your daily double chocolatey chip mocha Frappuccino that you get every morning before work ๐Ÿ˜. (Sorry if your name is really Karen lol). This stupid myth most likely stems from the fact that fruit contains sugar and people think sugar by itself makes them fat (also untrue).

Fruit is good for you. Fruit does contain sugar. Fruit also contains a ton of vitamins and minerals as well as fiber. You should not avoid fruit because it has sugar but if you are trying to limit calories then I would recommend choosing lower calorie per volume fruits such as berries instead of bananas and grapes which are higher calorie fruits. If youโ€™re avoiding all fruit to lose weight, youโ€™re doing it wrong.

Most people think that carbs are bad. They also think fat makes them fat. Well, your calories need to come from either protein, carbs, or fat. If youโ€™re scared to eat both carbs and fat then you are only left with protein.

Carbs are useful for many reasons. The primary one is energy and performance. They will help fuel your workouts and provide you with energy throughout the day.

Fat also has many benefits. One of the important ones is that it helps regulate hormones. If your fat is too low for too long, your testosterone levels will likely take a hit.

You should likely be incorporating all 3 macronutrients (carbs, protein, fat) in your diet as all three are important. Something to be mindful of is that fat has 9 calories per gram as opposed to carbs which have 4 calories per gram which just means that high fat foods typically are more calorie dense. However, no single macro should be avoided and if youโ€™re trying to gain weight you should be in a surplus and if youโ€™re trying to lose weight you should be in a deficit. Carbs and fat wonโ€™t make you fat if youโ€™re in a deficit.

๐Ÿ“ท Happy Friday!! ๐Ÿค— Iโ€™m currently waiting for my greyhound bus to board, so I was scrolling through some old pics when I found this. Itโ€™s not jaw dropping progress, itโ€™s not a loss of 100 pounds, itโ€™s to show you how slow progress truly is. These pictures are 7 months apart, and Iโ€™m only 12 pounds lighter on the right. SO If you feel like you arenโ€™t making progress but you know youโ€™re doing everything right (Nutrition and consistent workouts) STICK WITH IT. This progress breaks down to losing less than two pounds a month. This is why most people quit. They want to lose weight fast and itโ€™s just not realistic! And if you do lose weight fast thereโ€™s a very good chance youโ€™ll gain some of it back :/ Thereโ€™s no magic pill, secret workout or shake thatโ€™s going to make you drop 20 pounds in a week. The MOST important thing is consistency. ALSO remember you are changing your body composition!! So I am only 12 pounds lighter but my legs look more toned and I probably gained more muscle bc Iโ€™m prone to carrying weight there (thanks ). SO at the end of this rant, the 2 things to remember is *progress is SLOW and *the scale DOES NOT define success. Fat loss is simple. But itโ€™s not easy. Itโ€™s hard.

Really. Effinโ€™. Hard.

It all comes down to Calories in vs Calories out. It means how much food and drinks you consume in comparison to how much of that you burn. To lose weight and consequently fat you need to burn more than you consume.
But the hard part is how effective and consistent you are at doing those two things. And here is where things get complicated.
Sad? You eat more than you must.

You go out? You drink and eat more than you must.

Dinner at Aunties? Sneaky calories make their way in your diet without even noticing.

A muffin? In your mouth it goes.

And so on, and so on.

It is all about your psychology, self-control and basic nutrition knowledge. Master the three and you get a lean body.

Speaking of nutrition basicsโ€ฆ

Protein, fat, carbohydrates and fibers are called macronutrients.

Macronutrients are measured by grams and each gram is worth calories.

A gram of carbs or protein is worth 4 calories. A gram of fat is more expensive and costs 9 calories each and a gram of fiber is cheap and is worth 2 calories. Simple right?

When you set out to fix your eating habits, setting and tracking your macros properly is the big fat key.

And whenever someone says itโ€™s not, turn around and leave.

Because macros are worth calories, and calories are the fat loss king.

120+ pounds lost

It hasnโ€™t been fast. It hasnโ€™t been easy.
There have been gains, struggle, plateaus.
I have been ecstatic and I have been at my breaking point.
Iโ€™ve had heartbreaking loss in my personal life that derailed me for a season.
Iโ€™ve had injuries and health issues.
But I never let them stop me.
I decided over two years ago that this time I would be unstoppable. That no matter what my path held, I would never quit, I would never give up, I would keep fighting.
Iโ€™m still fighting.
The difference now is that the doubt is gone. The fear that I canโ€™t is gone. I trust myself and my resilience because Iโ€™ve proven it to myself. Iโ€™ve learned how to turn a setback into a comeback. And as Iโ€™ve said many times before, this journey is just a thousand comebacks all strung together.

WHY I DONโ€™T CONSUME DAIRY OR ENDORSE KETO ANYMORE. High fat diet (keto) and consuming dairy screwed up my skin. This is an awesome and totally unexpected change lol damn so I have to talk about it. I was going thru my gallery and found this pic on the left side from earlier this year. The left is what my skin looked like after almost a year of on and off keto and consuming dairy. Thatโ€™s when I decided to give up keto full and final, and control my dairy intake drastically. And today weโ€™re here - The picture on my right. My steadily recovering skin after 6 months of switching back to a more sustainable and nutritious diet and heavily controlled dairy intake. My dust allergies have also reduced significantly during this time and I in general feel less sluggish compared to when I used to consume dairy. So my official stance is no keto, thank you, and a predominantly dairy free lifestyle. If youโ€™re on keto, do it with the help of a dietician. And try to quit dairy for a bit and see if you look and feel better. Again, this is not a quick fix - eating clean over a long long period of time gets you the results.

The perfect Caprese pasta salad for a potluck or summer bbq! Caprese pasta salad made with juicy tomatoes, marinated fresh mozzarella cheese, fragrant fresh basil, and a mouthwatering homemade Italian herb vinaigrette! A versatile popular side dish.

Ingredients
:
Dressing/Marinade
2/3 cup olive oil
4-5 Tbsp red wine vinegar
2 Tbsp capers, drained and roughly chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/3 cup chopped fresh basil
1/4 cup chopped fresh chives
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
1/4 tsp kosher salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
Pasta Salad
2 cups cherry tomatoes, halved
8 oz bocconcini fresh mozzarella balls (or fresh mozzarella cut into 1/2" cubes)
12 oz dried orecchiette pasta (or other shortcut pasta)
3 Tbsp pine nuts, lightly toasted (optional)

Instructions
:
In a large mixing bowl, add dressing ingredients and whisk until well combined. Reserve 2 Tbsp of dressing and place in an airtight container and set aside.

Add cherry tomatoes and fresh mozzarella to mixing bowl with the dressing and toss to combine. Let sit and marinate approximately 30 minutes.

While the cheese and tomatoes are marinating, boil pasta according to package directions. Drain pasta and toss with a drizzle of olive oil. Let cool slightly.

Add pasta to mixing bowl and toss to combine. Transfer to serving container, cover and refrigerate 1-2 days. Before serving, toss pasta salad with reserved dressing and serve.

Just me being an idiot with a giant engraved silver spoon my parents gave us for our wedding anniversary ๐Ÿคฃ
Ironically, Iโ€™ll be using small spoons for the next few weeks to maximise food enjoyment while dialling back calories ๐Ÿ˜ฌ
Iโ€™ve dropped a few pounds in scale weight in two weeks (despite numerous family celebrations) just by increasing daily steps and making some food trade offs. This already puts me almost where I want to be, but Iโ€™m still doing a more focussed mini cut starting today to see what I can achieve in a few weeks. Goal is simply to reach a comfortable baseline for re-establishing maintenance in line with my current lifestyle/routine ๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿป
