Tuesday Tip🌿

Bergamot - a beautiful citrus oil sourced from Italy with a light floral note to its aroma.
Over the past two years I have had a strong connection and appreciation for the beautiful Bergamot essential oil. As with all citrus oils, Bergamot has the ability to uplift a mood, but where it is unique is in its ability to also encourage and support a positive mind. It is perfect to diffuse in the classroom, at work, or at home when stress levels or tension is high, due to its calming and soothing aroma.
One of my favorite and most powerful ways to use it is as part of my diffuser blend for sleep. If you, or someone you know, is struggling with low self esteem and low moods, add 2-3 drops of Bergamot essential oil to their diffuser at night to help support emotional balance, confidence and self esteem.

They say that the eyes are the window to the soul. My soul has been tired, anxious and unsettled the last couple of weeks so today I did something about it. In light of this eclipse and Full Moon in the house of LEO, I took time to detox my holy trinity and then recharge. I detoxed, exfoliated and moisturized my ENTIRE BEING, head to toe. As you can see I had my hair wrap on because I was currently deep conditioning my hair at the time I took this pic. I did a full body detoxifying clay mask and then submerged myself in a recharging bath and when I tell you that I have been renewed, I HAVE BEEN RENEWED! Mexican Chicken Soup! 😊
When I made this soup this morning (which is totally out of my routine), I realized something as I put it in the fridge...
I felt so relaxed.
It sounds silly but it completely took the edge off my nervous system. Why? I think it’s because I know I have food.
There are different kinds of hunger in this world. Here are 2 of them:
There’s the hunger for people who literally don’t have food. 😢
And then there’s the hunger of someone like me who is often surrounded by food that I can’t eat (technically, I can eat it but then I suffer). Think about it - our ancestors lived with a certain amount of food insecurity. The fear of hunger is in our genome. Knowing you have food to eat is a stress reliever.
Food prep gets props for being practical. But it’s more than that. It’s got an emotional component to it too.
Moral of the story: we are all stressed AF and little things matter. Make sure you have some good food in your fridge. It helps. 👍

Anyone else find it super satisfying to make a blend and see the beauty that mixing oils creates? 😍 This blend is for a niece with problematic skin. It also works well as an “ouchie blend” or for any skin issues. This recipe is also excellent for hormones and mood.

Here it is... 12 drops Yarrow/POM
7 Melaleuca
1 Oregano
3 Lavender
5 Frankincense
5 Helichrysum
Top it off with fractionated coconut oil.

Teaching is so raw for me.
This morning I taught a class and I wasn’t in the headspace for it.
I felt fragmented and disregulated for no reason in particular which is not uncommon for me.
I’m still healing.
My guided meditation into the practice felt choppy and messy and I wasn’t soothed nor did I feel soothing.
I was judging myself and worried about being judged and I felt guilty for not “being a better teacher.” I felt guilty for being human. It didn’t take me long to drop in and notice all that was transpiring and coming up within me but the lingering feeling of not enoughness stayed until nearly the end.
Teaching is a very vulnerable space.
It involves living your yoga in the most authentic ways.
It involves getting comfortable with being uncomfortable.
It involves coming face to face with your deep inner shit every time you step in front of a class.
There is so much that teaching asks of us/offers us.
Seeing ourselves.
Seeing our students.
Allowing ourselves to be seen by both.
Being available physically and energetically.
Holding space.
Being a leader in this capacity takes great courage.
I left class feeling grateful to share space with students who teach me as much as I teach them, if not more.
Grateful to be accepted by the @sanghastudio community, regardless of how good or bad I feel on any given day. And grateful to have the opportunity to grow in this space and through the sharing of this practice.
The ability to sit before a class does not come easily to me like it does for some.
It’s been hard won.
But I know in my bones I am supposed to be here and somehow that knowing will always be enough to keep me showing up.

Each one of us goes through a rough patch, we feel stuck, depressed, discouraged and completely unmotivated. This has been me for the last year and a half, but here are some ways that I have learned to get out of that funk (and currently practicing every day). 1. Biological Balance
Are you going to bed early enough? Are you eating well? Are you stressing your liver with processed foods? Are you dieting and not consuming enough calories? Our body is a hard worker to keep everything balanced, but sometimes, we need to help our with that process. An imbalance can absolutely affect our moods. So make sure you are sleeping good, eating good, and practicing self-care. It’s CRUCIAL!
2. Journaling
Anyone can journal! And writing down your thoughts and feelings can be extremely helpful for your soul.
3. Giving back
Kindness and gratitude are healing. When you start to get down in a funk, make it a must to get out and volunteer or do something kind for someone else. Write a thank you note to someone who has done something recently for you. Kindness is a proven mood lifter! You won’t regret it.
4. Get outside and get moving
You heard me! Taking a walk in nature is so helpful. Ask a friend to come if you don’t want to be alone. The best part about walking? It’s exercise. And that increases oxygen to your brain and helps you solve problems. So when you feel overwhelmed and in a funk, take some time to see something wonderful and breathe deeply.
Always remember that the times you are in a funk are really a normal part of life. There is nothing wrong with you. And it’s really important to have the reflection to process big and small changes in your life. Always let yourself reach out to someone and ask for help with you need it. Don’t suffer in silence – do something to help yourself out of the funk you are in.

This calendula and honey soap I made will be cured and ready to use at the end of next week. I can’t wait to give it a try, it’s definitely the “fanciest” soap I’ve made so far!
Through my own research I have discovered that calendula is said to have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that aid in healing and regeneration of the skin, it’s great for dry skin, acne, eczema, and preventing premature ageing, amongst other things.
Living in tropical North Queensland has me dealing with all sorts of skin conditions that I never experience living down south, like tinea and boils (no boils this time round thankfully), and thanks to my PCOS I also get regular breakouts on my face and back, I’m super interested to see how my skin will respond to this soap.
